Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early-CareerEnvironmental Engineer or Scientist in our EHS compliance and remediation practice in the greater Buffalo/Niagara Falls, New York area reporting to our Toronto, Canada branch. - Fieldwork such as soil, surface water and groundwater sampling, industrial hygiene sampling, drilling and contractor oversight, construction quality assurance and oversight, and remediation treatment system operation and maintenance;
- Well installation, aquifer testing, and groundwater monitoring;
- Environmental due diligence, regulatory compliance services, and permitting;
- Groundwater and soil remedy evaluation, cost estimation, design calculations, and implementation;
- Data analysis, including preparing maps, tables, and figures;
- Preparation of technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;
- Interact with project personnel (contractors, project managers, geologists &, engineers) and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communications and participation in work progress meetings;
- Ensure project documentation is correct and consistent with company policy & procedures and client expectations; and
- Observe and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans and the company’s Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures.
- Training: This position requires health and safety, first aid, CPR, and other training, as well as medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our employees to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
- Fieldwork: Up to 60%
- Overnight travel: Up to 30%
- Bachelor's degree in the sciences (geology, environmental, chemistry, etc.) (required)
- Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
- At least 2 years of related experience, including observation of industrial hygiene sampling, soil sampling, groundwater sampling, drilling and well installation, and other field techniques, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to environmental remediation and EHS compliance. (preferred)
- Ability to assure field activities comply with workplans and specifications and the ability to monitor several different types of activities simultaneously. (required)
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be self-motivated and possess a strong work ethic. (required)
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related software; AutoCAD and/or GIS; (preferred)
- Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
- Ability to read and interpret work plans, technical guidance, and construction drawings, including survey and topographical drawings as well as site layouts and figures. (preferred)
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering controls. (required)
