CDM Smith is searching for a senior environmental statistician to join our Environmental Services Group in a full-time capacity. This position will be a national role, and therefore location can be any CDM Smith office in the US or can be fully remote anywhere in the United States. In this role, the candidate would perform the following tasks:
- Provide senior level review and technical support to a team of environmental professionals using the latest data analysis methods and software tools in support of contaminated site characterization and remediation.
- Provide technical support on statistical analysis of environmental datasets comparing control and treatment effects
- Provide senior geostatistical support to a team of programmers developing internal data analytical tools for use across multiple projects.
- Conduct multiple variable analyses to develop statistically defensible relationships between contaminants in sediment, soils, surface water, groundwater, and/or biotics as functions of sediment grain size, sediment total organic carbon content, tissue concentrations, or other metrics.
- Perform geostatistical analyses, including kriging, co-kriging, indicator kriging, block kriging, conditional simulation, and regression methods
- Create customized geospatial analyses for quantitative evaluation of interactions between scale, uncertainty, and cost to evaluate remedial alternatives
- Conduct spatial and temporal trend analysis in biotic tissue contaminant concentrations to support risk management decisions as they relate to evaluation of proposed remedial options
- Perform sample size determinations using power analyses for comparisons of site and background for baseline and long-term monitoring programs
- Perform probabilistic risk calculations (e.g., Monte Carlo simulations)
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Science or related discipline with professional scientist registration/certification OR Master's degree in Science or related discipline. 12 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will have a Ph.D. in a related field with extensive geo-statistics experience in analyzing and interpolating large spatial 3D/4D environmental contaminant datasets, preferably including soil, groundwater, sediment, and/or biotic tissue data. The candidate should also have extensive knowledge of various interpolations methods: kriging, radial-basis-function, inverse-distance-weighting, and nearest-neighbor. Knowledge of the following programs is a plus: GIS, Surfer, C Tech’s EVS-Studio, Seequent’s Leapfrog Geo/Works, R, MATLAB, SAS, ProUCL, and Minitab.
