EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.
NOTE: Selective certification of eligibles with current and sufficient experience indicating a thorough knowledge of the practices, policies and procedures unique to the Department of Environmental Affairs will be used in filling this vacancy.
Under general supervision, this position is professional environmental work involving the enforcement of environmental pollution control laws and implementing programs and policy. Employee applies the techniques and principles of the appropriate science or engineering guidance to specialized environmental professional and technical work. This position oversees the ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY technicians in implementation of the Industrial Pretreatment Program. Employee inspects, monitors and documents all processes related to wastewater discharges and pretreatment methodologies at industrial, commercial and Parish facilities, reporting on conditions of equipment, operations and grounds; collects samples of various media (soil, waste, ground water, surface water, sanitary and or storm drainage wastewater, air, gas, leachate or other) and gathers other necessary field data or research data; evaluates laboratory analyses to determine compliance or corrective action; coordinates inspection and monitoring activities with facility management. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.
Possession of a Master's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Bio-Chemistry, Physics, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, Geography, Forestry, or a closely related degree.
OR
Possession of a Bachelor's degree in any of the major fields listed above; PLUS, significant, satisfactory work experience involving the enforcement of environmental regulations or the implementation of environmental programs.
Degrees must be from accredited colleges or universities; proof of education must be submitted within one week of final filing date.
Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate.(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing.
