Inspects working conditions, collects data and manages hazardous, biohazardous, and radioactive materials, to ensure compliance with EPA, OSHA, DOT, NRC, and other applicable regulations.
Responsibilities
- Provide and facilitate services to the EVMS community, to ensure campus safety and welfare.
- Assist Safety Officers with routine activities.
- Perform data entry, record keeping, and archival tasks.
- Perform QA/QC functions.
- Handle various types of chemical, biological and radioactive wastes; collect, characterize, segregate, safe storage, and packaging.
- Perform and document the testing and inspection of safety showers and emergency eyewashes.
- Fit-Test people for best respirator size.
- Perform chemical and radioactive materials inventories.
- Collect and segregate chemicals, batteries, and plastics, for recycling.
- Perform and document radiation contamination surveys.
- Assist with and document, laboratory inspections and, indoor air quality investigations.
- Validate ventilation engineering controls performance.
- Manage and update Safety Data Sheet records.
- Validate autoclave function.
- Assist Safety Officers with the preparation, delivery and documentation of training products.
- Coordinate the use of emergency cold storage equipment.
- Calibrate and use industrial hygiene equipment.
- Assist with environmental sampling and sample management.
- Update laboratory signage and hazard communication.
- Deliver ionizing radiation.
- Respond to chemical, biological and radioactive material spills.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School diploma plus seven (7) years of related experience required (one (1) year working with safety procedures preferred). Bachelor's degree in a physical science is preferred. Current OSHA HAZWOPER training preferred. CBRN experience preferred.
