The Role
Identifies hazardous workplace conditions and takes preliminary samples and measurements of hazardous forces and toxic substances, removes hazards and/or protects employees by guarding, revising work procedures, and training or requiring use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment. Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standard provisions of any labor agreement, ensuring that all required records are prepared and maintained. Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and in any procedures that may follow a citation. Investigates, prepares, and forwards as required reports on injuries and fatalities. Conducts safe work procedures training courses.
At NNS, this position will focus on contractor safety. At NNS, this position will focus on contractor safety. Responsibilities will include performing inspections at worksites for hazards and non-compliance, distributing items to responsible corrective action parties and conducting follow-up to ensure closure, responding and investigating all significant incidents involving contractor work, attending all fact/findings to ensure proper root causes are identified and appropriate corrective actions have been assigned, evaluating Contractor EH&S Management Programs and Safety Management Plans as applicable, identifying missing elements and requesting additional information as necessary. This person will also compile reports and presentations summarizing results or conclusions of injury trends and activities, such as investigations, inspections, preventative activities, and validations as well as maintaining policy and procedures related to contractor EH&S programs, administering briefings and contractor safety stand downs as necessary.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience
One of the following may be used as an equivalent to Bachelor's Degree :
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience


Nice to Have
Prefer experience as a construction site SAFETY OFFICER.
