The Challenge
We are hiring an entry-level engineer to join our Environmental Analysis team that supports the development of sustainable transportation infrastructure minimizing impacts on the human and natural environment.
In this role, you will:
- Assist our Environmental Monitoring and Stewardship group with the planning, design, construction, monitoring, and stewardship of NCDOT on-site stream, wetland, and buffer mitigation sites statewide.
- Assist and support senior engineers in the group to ensure timely project delivery of on-site mitigation design plans.
- Assist in the coordination of post-construction monitoring efforts for on-site stream, wetland, and buffer mitigation sites statewide, ensuring compliance with all environmental permit conditions and schedules.
- Assist in the management of Private Engineering Firms involving scopes of work, estimates, project management tasks, scheduling, budgets, invoicing, and evaluations.
- Read & understand transportation project plans, provisions, specifications, policies, procedures, regulations, and laws relating to Compensatory Mitigation.
- Assist in the management and implementation of NCDOT's Stewardship program, including site inspections and field reconnaissance to resolve issues.
- Coordinate and communicate with State and Federal Environmental Agencies about permit compliance related to the NCDOT's On-site Mitigation program.
What You Bring
- Basic knowledge of the principals and practices of Environmental Engineering relating to natural stream restoration, wetland restoration, and buffer mitigation design/monitoring.
- Basic knowledge of federal and state laws, permitting, and compensatory mitigation rules related to environmental matters involving transportation planning, design, and construction.
- Basic knowledge of NCDOT's organization and operation, including contract proposals and procedures.
- Experience assisting with aspects of the management of Private Engineering Firms, including scope of work, estimates, and invoicing.
- Experience reading and understanding highway project plans, provisions, specifications, policies, procedures, regulations, and laws relating to Compensatory Mitigation.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
Note
- We may require registration as a professional engineer with the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
