Hybrid - This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, North Carolina, three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business].
The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for you to work with highly accomplished Environmental Leaders on the Non-Manufacturing Team. In this role, you will lead and provide oversight of environmental activities at multiple sites. As an Senior Environmental Engineer within the Sustainable Workplaces team, it is critical to be a good communicator, work with multiple stakeholders, understand regulatory compliance obligations, and support the business priorities.
What You'll Do
Responsible for developing/maintaining/supporting robust and consistent environmental stewardship program strategies in support of GM’s mission to deliver sustainable solutions that improve the communities in which we live and work.
Experienced in at least one of the main environmental programs (air permits and regulation, water permits and regulations, or waste regulations)
Engages with Domain Experts as necessary to ensure continual improvement and support new program/project implementation.
Key collaboration with site management and employees, Facility Managers, regulatory agencies, internal and external community leaders and members, legal staff, GM and external audit services, utility service providers, Project Planning teams at sites & HQ, domain experts and chemical and resource management business partners.
Responsible for chemical management activities at sites where there is no Chemical Management contract.
Responsible for on-site environmental support of GM Defense, Charlotte Technical Center (GM Racing), Charlotte Customer Care & Aftersales Parts Distribution Center, and Charlotte OnStar Call Center
Responsible for environmental oversight at other small non-manufacturing sites (TBD)
Travel to small non-manufacturing sites throughout the US
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities
Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering, or related sciences
3+ years of experience in Environmental Engineering or related science
Commitment to ongoing professional development.
Environmental regulatory knowledge
Experience in Air Permitting, Storm Water Permitting, Wastewater Pretreatment Permitting and/or Hazardous Waste Generator Requirements.
Communicate proficiently to all levels of management with executive presence
Work autonomously
Develop and lead effective teams
Determining compliance & data analysis
Timely and effective problem solving
Project execution

Ability to travel throughout the US

3+ years of experience in an automotive manufacturing operation
