Description

Caterpillar's Global Hydraulics Organization within Integrated Components & Solutions Division (ICS) is seeking an Engineering Specialist to lead design and development of global Hydraulic Sealing Solutions. The successful candidate will lead a dynamic product development team with responsibility for influencing and implementing sealing technology in hydraulic components across the enterprise. As the driving force behind one of the most critical sub-systems (sealing) in hydraulic systems, your influence and impact on overall Caterpillar product performance and quality are paramount.
Take command of executing Hydraulic Component New Product Introduction (NPI) programs with associated with new Sealing Solutions, skillfully analyze customer product performance challenges, and develop new technologies in a highly collaborative environment with the global sealing partners. This position will leverage your technical, commercial and project leadership skills to drive sealing strategy in concert with procurement professionals, global design engineers, product service, and machine business division partners.

Job Duties

A successful candidate will establish and implement the global Hydraulic Sealing strategy across the enterprise.  Regular tasks may include but are not limited to regular collaboration with suppliers and procurement professionals, travel to seal vendor facilities, defining application and component requirements, developing sealing technology business proposals, establishing program plans, overseeing validation plans, coordinating detailed drawing releases, and conducting design and stakeholder reviews.  Job responsibilities may also involve leading team meetings, completing technical reports, and leading part inspections to ensure design met customer requirements, risks are mitigated, technical information is reviewed and archived, documented conclusions & recommendations in design reviews, and providing updates in team stakeholder meetings.  He/she will also

  • Have design control responsibility for Hydraulic Sealing products across the enterprise; accountable for meeting customer expectations for product cost, quality, and delivery (for example)
  • Contribute to multiple New Product Introduction (NPI) development projects, New Technology Integration (NTI) projects, and product cost/quality improvement projects
  • Conduct detailed design and project stakeholder reviews with the Global Engineering teams
  • Collaborate with supplier representatives, global/regional purchasing and manufacturing facility teams to support the product velocity, quality & cost targets, conduct supplier process audits, evaluate sourcing, and complete PPAP/APQP process validation tasks
  • Troubleshoot field failures, conduct analysis of warranty claims, and factory issues.  Complete parts analysis and technical reports as needed
  • Be responsible for managing a design control with existing product portfolio and coordinating new product drawing releases, maintenance, conduct continuous product and process development and collaborate with other internal divisions to implement seal kit solutions
  • Align Hydraulic Sealing initiatives across product groups, suppliers, and manufacturing process partners
  • Mentor and train global teams on Hydraulic Sealing products, applications and solutions

Basic Qualifications

  • Education – Bachelor's degree or higher in accredited Engineering field
  • Experience – 10+ years of industry experience
  • Technical Excellence – skilled in effectively managing and aligning global resources to deliver on NPI, NTI and continuous product improvement (CPI) projects. Possess engineering management and financial acumen for efficient resource utilization and execution aligned with business plans and global product strategy.

Top Candidates will also have

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in an accredited Engineering curriculum
  • Degree in Polymer/Chemical or Mechanical Engineering field
  • Industry experience with polymer application engineering, global sources and manufacturing processes
  • Application knowledge of mining and construction equipment
  • Hydraulic component design and development experience, familiar with cylinder applications
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and process partners
  • Strong analytical skills & experience in components to meet performance, cost and quality requirements
  • Experience in Project management with the ability to effectively develop and manage project plans from concept to production
  • The ability to work/lead multiple projects simultaneously and to make sound decisions
  • A strong sense of urgency balanced with an unwavering commitment to product quality
  • Available for flexible working hours due to collaboration with global product development teams

Additional Information

Location preference of this position is Caterpillar Technical Center in Mossville, IL, although alternate work locations will be considered for the ideal candidate.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Any relocation costs incurred would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

This position may require up to 20% travel.
