Job Description
This Intern role will support the Packaging Engineering team for the Hardware & Protective Solutions segment. This Packaging Engineering position will collaborate with internal business partners such as the Reliability/Testing Lab, Product Engineering, Marketing, Procurement, Operations and Creative Services to enable meaningful packaging improvements visible across hardware stores.
The Intern will complete tasks as assigned that will contribute to cost savings and efficiencies across all products and packaging brands. The intern position will align package testing and design with business operations and the Engineering Department as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations. The Package Engineering Intern position will assist in developing packaging solutions that drive business results (cost, sustainability, sales, quality) for Hillman Group.

This position will be technical, hands-on, and creative. The packaging engineer intern position will be asked to problem- solve with technically adept creative solutions.
- Improve your technical packaging expertise by completing projects with our Packaging Production and DC facilities.
- Support Packaging Engineering by assisting in managing improvement projects to meet facility goals.
- Promote and support company policies, guidelines, and mission statements.
- Adhere to Environmental Management System guidelines, legal compliance by minimizing environmental impact and pursuing preventative measures.
- Ensure a Lean concept within the team through continuous improvement efforts.
- Maintain and update packaging catalogs for multiple packaging lines.
- Create and upload customer packaging datasheets.
Required qualifications
- Communicate effectively with all cross-functional team members.
- Comply with safe work practices: report unsafe working conditions, review any safety issues in operations, report all first aid incidents.
- Comply with work standards, identify opportunities for quality improvements, and report quality incidents.
- Skilled with Microsoft Office Excel.
- Proficient with measuring tools (ruler, caliper, scale, tape measure).
- Work is physically between three Hillman Cincinnati locations: Kemper Meadow Office, Hamilton Ave Office, and Carillon Distribution Center.
- This is a full time / on-site / in-office only position. This position requires (some) personal transportation between the three local locations.
Preferred qualifications
- Working toward a bachelor's degree in Packaging, Engineering, technical field, or equivalent qualification.
- Quality Control or Packaging Material Tech Testing are skills that complement this position.
- Working independently within the team. Experience working with functional and cross-functional teams.
