GEI’s Denver office is seeking an intern Civil Engineering Student with a background in structural, geotechnical, or water resources engineering. The ideal candidate would have relevant coursework in Civil Engineering and a desire to pursue a career in this area. The Denver, Colorado office has a variety of civil engineering design and analysis projects, and is currently looking for an intern to support these exciting projects. The ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively with senior staff to perform a wide variety of tasks including developing engineering plans for construction, performing supporting calculations and analyses, and writing reports in addition to drafting and design in AutoCAD Civil 3D or Revit.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Conducting structural analyses including rebar reinforcement sizing, global structure stability, heat of hydration, and others;
- Performing hydraulic and hydrologic analyses using 1D and 2D HEC-RAS and FLOW-3D software;
- Performing geotechnical field investigations, including soil and rock logging, in-situ testing, monitoring well installation, and soil and water sampling;
- Conducting geotechnical analyses for dam safety, water supply and flood protection projects including seepage and stability modeling, filter compatibility calculations, and material quantity estimates;
- Supporting data reduction, management, and analysis, and assisting in the development of data reports, figures, and presentations to clients and regulators;
- Developing AutoCAD Civil 3D models of small to major earthwork projects for use in design and quantity estimation;
- Assist in preparing detailed written memoranda and reports on technical assignments and presenting technical information to peers and clients.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently seeking a B.S. in Civil Engineering or an equivalent Engineering degree;
- Developing technical report writing and communication skills;
- Experience with standard geotechnical analysis programs including GeoStudio Seep/W and Slope/W, Plaxis, WALLAP and L-Pile is a plus;
- Experience with spatial analysis and visualization software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcMap, and Revit;
- Experience with Hydraulic modeling software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, Flow-3D, and FlowMaster;
- Willingness and ability to perform field tasks;
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
