The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Employment and Training Services, is recruiting for an
Employment Services Technician 1/2 located in Fairbanks! No Cover Letter Required!

This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 14/15.

What You Will Be Doing:
Employment Services Technicians (EST) provide services to job seekers, employers, and partner agencies using outreach, referrals, training and education. This position's assigned duties are to administer the Jobs for Veterans State Grant (JVSG) as well as the Workforce Investment Opportunity Act (WIOA) and State Training and Employment Program (STEP). This is a flexibly staffed position that requires a very specific skill set for flexing, and will be hired as an EST 1.
This position is in a training environment, learning eligibility criteria, programmatic guidelines, case management functions and system operations. The primary focus under the JVSG Program is to assist and work with eligible veterans, transitioning service members and other eligible persons. The primary focus under the WIOA and STEP program is to provide employment and training services to overcome barriers to employment through the administration of state and federal grant funding.
This position provides a variety of services to customers including resume writing, interviewing skills, cover letter assistance, job search assistance, labor market research and career exploration.

The work week for this position is Monday-Friday, 7.5 hours per day between the hours of 8am-5pm.
The Working Environment You Can Expect:
The Employment Services Technician (EST) is stationed in the Fairbanks Regional Office Building (FROB), 675 7th Avenue, Station B. Our building has free covered parking with electrical plug-ins and sits adjacent to Veteran’s Memorial Park in beautiful downtown Fairbanks. You will be located inside the newly remodeled Fairbanks Job Center (FJC). The FJC has a team-centered, professional working environment with an emphasis on exceptional customer service. FJC staff have strong core values and a solid commitment to the work we do, and we recognize that each individual has a specialized skillset that brings value to the team. This EST position is customer-service driven and involves extensive contact with the public and staff via phone, email, video communication as well as face to face.
This position requires regular travel via state vehicle, occasional in-state travel and possible out-of-state travel. Also requires the ability to access military bases and installations.

Minimum Qualifications

Employment Services Technician Level 1:
One year of experience such as providing Employment Services; coordinating training services; conducting skills assessments; making referrals to community support services; assisting individuals apply for federal/state financial assistance or benefits; providing services to the public; explaining policies, procedures, services, or requirements to the public; resolving customer complaints or problems; calculating costs, refunds, taxes, or benefits; providing written explanations, summaries, reports, or correspondence; or locating and inputting information into data systems such as reservation, ticketing, or application systems.

Employment Services Technician Level 2:
One year of experience as an Employment Services Technician 1 with the State of Alaska or equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Two years of experience such as providing Employment Services; coordinating training services; conducting skills assessments; making referrals to community support services; assisting individuals apply for federal/state financial assistance or benefits; providing services to the public; explaining policies, procedures, services, or requirements to the public; resolving customer complaints or problems; calculating costs, refunds, taxes, or benefits; providing written explanations, summaries, reports, or correspondence; or locating and inputting information into data systems such as reservation, ticketing, or application systems.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This is a flexibly staffed position with the opportunity to advance to Level 2 upon management’s assessment that the incumbent is performing adequately and has successfully completed training as an Employment Services Technician 1.
DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIREMENT
Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.
