Reporting directly to the VP, Senior Human Capital Business Partner, the Employee Relations Specialist will play a critical role in fostering a positive and productive work culture by managing and enhancing relationships with employees and managers within Beneficial State Bank. The Employee Relations Specialist will address workplace issues, promote effective communication, and ensure compliance with Bank policies, regulations, and applicable employment laws to promote and maintain a positive culture.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Works diligently to mediate and resolve conflict between employees and/or employees and managers.
- Serves as the initial contact and liaison for intake and assessment of employee complaints.
- Conducts investigations and assesses Employee Relations issues, providing fair, timely, and consistent resolutions.
- Collaborates with relevant stakeholders to implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Maintains up to date knowledge of employment laws and regulations to ensure Bank policies are accurate and compliant. Notifies VP, Sr. Human Capital Business Partner when additional investigation and/or review is necessary.
- Contributes to the development and revision of Human Capital policies and procedures and helps minimize risk exposure by ensuring they are implemented and communicated effectively.
- Understands the Bank's collective bargaining agreement and ensures employees and managers adhere to it.
- Assists in the collection of data to support collective bargaining requests and grievance responses.
- Facilitates open and effective communication between employees and managers.
- Supports the development and implementation of strategies to enhance employee engagement and strengthen organizational culture.
- Assists in the performance management process by providing guidance on performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions.
- Partners with managers to address performance-related concerns and develops appropriate solutions.
- Collaborates with Learning & Development Program Manager to design and develop learning content on conflict resolution, communication skills, and other relevant topics.
- Helps identify opportunities for skill development and training to improve Employee Relations and support employee growth and retention.
- Compiles data from new hire check-in and exit interviews and regularly reports out data to help identify opportunities for process improvements or address concerns.
- Serves as a trusted resource for employees seeking guidance on workplace issues.
- Supports organizational changes such as realignment, restructuring, mergers & acquisitions, etc.
- Completes all mandatory compliance training as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
The position of the Employee Relations Specialist is not responsible for the supervision of employees but does assist with training and coaching activities across the organization.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in human resources with experience in industrial/organizational psychology, organizational behavior, or organizational development preferred.
- 3 years of proven experience as an Employee Relations Specialist or similar HR role.
- In-depth knowledge of employment and labor laws, regulations, and guidelines (including ADA, FMLA, FLSA, Title VII, NLRA, etc.), and HR best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals, teams, leaders, and external stakeholders.
- Strong research, investigation, and analytical skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Dependable with strong organizational skills; ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated track record of adapting to ambiguity or changing priorities.
- Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the Bank's organizational structure, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors.
- Experience in a multi-state, multi-location operating environment preferred.
- Knowledge of HRIS systems. Experience with Ceridian Dayforce a plus.
- Previous experience in a unionized environment preferred.
- Professional certification such as PHR or SHRM-CP preferred.
