Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren or Milford Michigan three times per week.

Role

We are seeking an EV Range Testing and Emissions Lab Engineer to design and support high accuracy and reliability systems used to control vehicle development and certification test systems and collect data. Gather and analyze test requirements, design/select appropriate software and processes to permit accurate and complete product performance evaluations. Systems needs to comprehend human factors, fault tolerance, error handling, upgradability, and compatibility with standard test hardware to allow for future deployment in other areas. Project management includes planning of design and deployment of software, revision control and communication to stakeholders. Provide direction to technical support personnel, report regularly on progress. Provide detailed project documentation, teams communications and manage versions control on software packages build in-house as well as vendor provided software. Work with lab operations groups to execute lab systems upgrades and resolve issues. Resolve issues in test system software and hardware, provide root cause analysis and timely resolution to test site problems when necessary.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Design & support high accuracy, high reliability systems used to control vehicle development test systems and collect data. Gather and analyze test requirements, design/select appropriate hardware, software, and processes to permit accurate and complete product performance evaluations.

  • Systems need to comprehend human factors, fault tolerance, error handling, upgradability, and compatibility with standard test hardware to allow for future deployment in other areas.

  • Project management: Planning, accurate cost, timing, and resource forecasts to procure, manage, and carry out the project. Provide direction to technical support personnel, report regularly on progress. Provide detailed project documentation.

  • Work with Facilities and external lab operations groups to execute lab systems upgrades and resolve issues.

  • Troubleshoot test system software and hardware, provide root cause analysis and timely resolution to test site problems when necessary.

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Science engineering

  • 5+ years of experience with EV and emissions vehicle testing.

  • Experience with ETAS-INCA, Vspy, AVL iGEM system and Horiba emissions benches or A&D iTEST systems.

  • Knowledge of computer operating systems and local area networks, both wired and wireless. Ability to configure, manage, troubleshoot, and upgrade lab test site computer systems.

  • Ability to effectively apply common office automation tools: Word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Software engineering

  • Knowledgeable in the application of a variety of instrumentation grade transducers, serial data tools (CAN, Intrepid NeoVI, LIN, RS-485, etc.), data acquisition systems (use and troubleshooting).

  • Knowledge of software development best practices, scripting, software revision control, and mixed (software, hardware) systems.

  • Detailed experience working hands-on with in-vehicle data acquisition systems including installation, use, and data analysis

  • Ability for formulate project plans using timing charts and deliverables schedule. Ability to manage multiple projects where tracking and reporting progress and problems is required.  Ability to present and communicate technical information and lead small groups to achieve project goals.

  • Ability to interact in a positive manner with all employees of all levels and backgrounds. Ability to forge strong relationships with teammates, leadership, and customers. Ability to interact with others on a personal level, as well as in a team setting.

  • Maintain a good work ethic, (on time, dependable, good attitude). Work cooperatively with others.

  • Adhere to department guidelines (workplace organization, breaks, flexible work hours, hazardous materials, safety, etc.).
