Position Summary:
The Adelson School seeks a full-time Lower School teacher starting in August of 2024. Reporting to the Lower School Principal, the Lower School Teacher facilitates growth and success in academic and social/emotional learning through the implementation of the chosen curriculum. The Lower School Teacher differentiates instruction to meet the needs of all learners and creates a warm, welcoming classroom environment where all students feel safe taking risks. The Lower School Teacher creates positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration, and clearly communicates regarding progress, strengths, goals, and expectations.
Requirements:
● Plan and implement high-quality instruction in English Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies.
● Demonstrate the ability to use backward design to plan curriculum.
● Have strong classroom management skills.
● Exhibit a strong understanding of the developmental and learning needs of Lower School students while fostering a love of learning, independence, and personal responsibility.
● Demonstrate the ability to work well with a range of learning styles and have experience differentiating instruction to meet students’ needs.
● Actively engage students in the learning process.
● Create a warm, nurturing classroom community in which students feel known, seen, and valued.
● Establish positive, collaborative relationships with parents and effectively communicate regarding academic growth and goals, and social, emotional, and behavioral challenges and progress.
● Reflect on teaching practice, seek professional development, and remain open to constructive feedback.
● Assess students using a variety of formal and informal assessments.
● Use formative and summative assessment data to drive instruction and identify strengths and areas for growth.
● Has the ability to integrate technology in meaningful ways, focusing on creation over consumption.
● Demonstrate understanding of 21st-century skills.
● Exhibit organizational skills and creativity.
● Is a collaborator, honest, and reliable.
● Demonstrate a strong work ethic.
● Participate in grade-level team meetings and staff development meetings.
● Collaborate with the Director of Academics, school counselors, and student support staff to create optimal learning environments and experiences for all students.
Education and Experience:
● Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, or a closely related field. Master’s degree preferred.
● A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in an elementary school setting.
● Knowledge and experience with differentiated instruction.
● Nevada teacher certification is preferred.
● Experience with or knowledge of Jewish culture, traditions, and values preferred.
● Experience with Responsive Classroom preferred.
● Experience with explicit phonics instruction preferred.
Physical Requirements:
● Prolonged periods of sitting.
● Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
At times may be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
