Teachers unleash their skills to support students as they lead their own learning. Essential teaching practices include relationships, engaging content, differentiation, proactive management, and restorative justice.
Job Responsibilities – What am I responsible for?
All Instructional Roles

- Pod PLC Collaboration – all teachers are part of a pod PLC (a group of teachers from two grades + a Special Education teacher + an EL teacher). This group meets several times a week for data analysis, planning, collaboration, and professional learning.
- Contribute to the school systems and culture through additional duties, professional development, routines in their classrooms (such as attendance and grading), and other duties as necessary.
- Report to Assistant Principal or Principal
K-5 Classroom Teachers
Collaborate with grade-level pods to plan daily differentiated instruction in both Math and ELA, as well as the core project block. Teachers are not expected to be content experts in either ELA or Math but are expected to collaborate with other teachers, leverage a provided curriculum, and use data to make informed decisions about best practices for their students. Classroom teachers collaborate with their grade-level team, including SpEd and EL instructors, to prepare and execute small group interventions to ensure the needs of all learners are being met.

- Lead/co-lead Math block
- Lead/co-lead ELA (K-2 includes phonics) block
Math/Reading Teachers
Work across grade-levels to deliver math or reading instruction to students at a rigorous pace. Differentiate instruction to ensure the needs of all learners are being met. Math/Reading teachers usually have four sections of their subject plus their homeroom.
- Math or Reading teachers should be exemplary instructors in their subject areas, with a proven track record of results and/or additional qualifications
- Math teachers will deliver the primary grade-level content in math and provide some tier 2 interventions
- Reading teachers lead a Tier 2/Tier 3 intervention course where Tier 1 students are primarily engaged in independent reading and the teacher pulls small groups and delivers targeted interventions for students.
Project Teachers
In middle school, our students have a two-hour project course that integrates reading, writing, science, social studies, math, and social-emotional skills through hands-on learning. Teachers have two of these double-period sections plus their homeroom. Projects are 12-week learning cycles designed to engage students in multi-disciplinary learning.
- Previous work in/exposure to project-based learning is strongly preferred. BBA additionally provides extensive professional development, planning and curriculum support, and coaching to ensure teachers are able to deliver high quality PBL instruction
- Previous work helping middle school students prepare for high school and beyond strongly preferred
- Teachers from any subject/discipline background can make excellent PBL instructors. We find that ELA and science teachers often have nearly all of the skills necessary already and willing/excited math teachers are a great addition too!
Specials/Electives Teachers
Design, prepare, and execute project-based electives courses. Specials teachers plan differentiated instruction for their subject and support all learners to engage in the content meaningfully.
- Lead multiple sections of your elective course(s)
- Differentiate instruction for students
- We are open to different specials/electives, but highly interested in physical education, dance, theater, computer science, or similar courses.
