Job description: K-8th Grade Classroom Teacher (Founding Teacher)


School Introduction:

As the founding teacher of the Do & Be Arts Academy of Excellence (DBAE), you will play a pivotal role in establishing our innovative charter school and shaping its educational model. This position offers a unique opportunity to be a part of a dynamic team dedicated to providing quality performing arts and arts-integrated education to K-8th grade students in North Las Vegas. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual who embodies our mission and vision, and who is committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for all students.


Recommended Qualifications: DBAE is a founding school committed to a strong launch to our programming therefore the following qualifications are highly recommended for serious consideration of this role.

  • Education and Certification:

  • A bachelor's degree in education or a relevant subject area from an accredited institution.
  • A valid Nevada teaching license or the ability to obtain one before the start of employment.
  • Endorsements or certifications in subject-specific areas, such as elementary education, English, mathematics, science, social studies, or special education.
  • Teaching Experience:

  • Prior teaching experience in K-8th grade classrooms, preferably in an arts-integrated or project-based learning environment.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with disabilities, English language learners, and historically under-represented groups.
  • Pedagogical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of effective teaching strategies, including differentiated instruction, cooperative learning, and formative assessment practices.
  • Ability to integrate the arts into academic instruction and create engaging and interactive learning experiences for students.
  • Classroom Management:

  • Proven ability to establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Effective behavior management skills and the ability to support the social-emotional development of students.
  • Communication and Collaboration:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with students, parents, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively as part of a team, including participating in professional learning communities and collaborative planning.
  • Professional Growth and Commitment:

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated on best practices in education.
  • Willingness to embrace change, take initiative, and contribute to the growth and development of the school as a founding teacher.

Teacher Core Competencies:

Teaching Expertise: Demonstrates a deep understanding of K-8th grade curriculum, pedagogy, and instructional strategies. Utilizes arts-integrated teaching methods to engage students and foster creativity in the classroom.

Classroom Management: Establishes and maintains a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, cooperation, and active student participation. Implements effective behavior management strategies and supports the social-emotional development of students.

Differentiated Instruction: Adapts instructional approaches to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including those with disabilities, English language learners, and historically under-represented groups. Implements strategies to address individual learning styles and challenges.

Collaboration: Works collaboratively with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student learning and achievement. Participates actively in team meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.

Communication: Demonstrates the ability to engage and inspire throught verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, parents, and stakeholders of diverse backgrounds and abilities. Provides timely feedback on student progress and maintains open lines of communication.

Flexibility and Adaptability: Embraces change, demonstrates resilience, and adapts teaching strategies to meet evolving needs and challenges. Shows a willingness to take risks and try new approaches in the classroom. Demonstrates the ability to adapt and innovate in a startup environment, and able to balance multiple responsibilities and manage time effectively .

Entrepreneurial Mindset: Ability to embrace challenges, take calculated risks, and drive change in a start-up environment.

Reflective Practice: Engages in continuous professional growth and self-reflection. Seeks feedback, evaluates instructional practices, and strives for ongoing improvement. Models a growth mindset for students. Seeks opportunities for professional development to continuously enhance personal creativity and innovative teaching practice.


Key Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Planning and Instruction: Develops and implements engaging, arts-integrated lesson plans aligned with the school's curriculum, project-based learning, and social-emotional learning objectives. Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of ALL students and monitors their progress. Use the arts to develop and deliver arts-integrated lessons that seamlessly blend artistic expression with academic content. Incorporate various art forms, such as visual arts, music, drama, or dance, to enhance student learning and engagement in core subjects. Encourage students to apply their creative skills and artistic perspectives when approaching academic assignments and projects.

2. Classroom Environment: Creates a welcoming, safe, and inclusive classroom environment that fosters creativity, collaboration, and mutual respect. Create a classroom atmosphere that encourages imagination, curiosity, and creative expression. Design and implement instructional strategies that promote originality, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Provide opportunities for students to explore and experiment with diverse art forms, encouraging their self-expression and creativity. Establishes clear expectations and routines to promote a positive learning atmosphere. Recognize and celebrate students' unique talents, interests, and creative abilities. Encourage students to take risks, think outside the box, and embrace a growth mindset when approaching creative challenges. Encourage students to collaborate with peers, sharing and combining their creative talents and perspectives.

3. Assessment and Evaluation: Research, design and administer appropriate level formative and summative assessments to measure student learning. Analyzes assessment data to inform instructional decisions and provides constructive feedback to students to support their growth.

4. Parent and Community Engagement: Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with parents and guardians, keeping them informed about their child's progress and school activities. Collaborates with community organizations and stakeholders to enhance student learning opportunities.

5. Promote Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Connections: Collaborate with other teachers to design project-based learning projects and activities that integrate arts across multiple subject areas. Foster with specialists, local organizations, and community resources to enhance students' exposure to diverse artistic and academic experiences.

6. Professional Development: Actively participates in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and stay abreast of best practices in arts integration, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues.

7. Founding Teacher Responsibilities: As the founding teacher, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of school policies, procedures, and curriculum frameworks. You will collaborate closely with the school leadership team to establish a strong foundation for the school's success.

8. Nurture Students' Creative Potential: Recognize and celebrate students' unique talents, interests, and creative abilities. Provide guidance and support to help students develop their creative skills and pursue artistic endeavors. Encourage students to take risks, think outside the box, and embrace a growth mindset when approaching creative challenges.
