The Electronics Engineer will support our greater Product Engineering Team with the design, development, and support of printed circuit boards for our products. Design areas include microcontroller interfaces, RF and other communication protocols, battery life optimization, and photoelectric smoke sensing. While you will be the PCB expert, there is plenty of opportunity to support the greater engineering team in other areas and be involved with other initiatives. Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Design analog/digital electrical circuits for battery operated embedded systems:
- Schematic creation
- PCB/Trace layout
- Prototype build and troubleshooting
- Design for SMT manufacturing
- Test fixturing
- Production oversight
- Responsible for conducting design reviews
- Development of design verification specifications
- Perform digital and analog hardware verification in the lab and writing test reports
- Provide breadboards for early software functionality confirmation
- Ensure design is optimized for performance and cost
- Develop new innovative products within applicable realm of UL standards
- Coordinate with the manufacturing department with regards to product assembly through manual and automated methods
- Progress design and development of Apollo's future product roadmap, through research of emerging technologies
- Benchmark and document performance and design of competitor's products in the market
- Sustain and update currently designed and approved product for optimum manufacturability
Experience, Skills, and Education Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree of Science in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, or related engineering field
- 3+ Years embedded design/manufacture experience
- Experience in the design of low power analog and digital electronic circuits
- Understanding of communication networks (UART, I2C, SPI, BLE, WIFI)
- Experience with Power Supplies, Meters, Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, etc. and their use in testing/troubleshooting PCB level issues
- Experience with soldering and basic electronic hand tools
- Advanced experience in using schematic and PCB design software (ORCAD, Eagle, Altium etc.) to create the schematic, PCB Layout, and Trace Routing for new products
- Knowledge of C coding (MSP430, PIC, Arduino, Atmega)
- Communication and personal skills to connect with customers and quickly understand how to best support them
Bonus Points
- Life safety/security systems product experience (smoke detectors, CO detectors, security panels)
- SMT electronics manufacturing experience
- Additional Programming experience: LabView, C++, others
- UL Certification Experience (Life safety products preferred)
- DFSS tools/experience
