What You Will Do
The successful candidate will work as part of the Fuel Cell Team at Los Alamos National Laboratory on a variety of fuel cell related projects. The Fuel Cell Team develops novel materials and components for polymer electrolyte fuel cells and water electrolyzers in support of the Laboratory's energy security missions. This is a temporary position intended for students who want to develop research skills and learn about career opportunities at LANL.
Job activities will include:
  • Perform research on fuel cell or electrolyzer projects
  • Perform electrochemical testing of fuel cells/electrolyzers
  • Fabricate electrodes for fuel cells and electrolyzers
  • Characterize electrodes
  • Document and present results

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Fluent in common software packages including Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Experience with safe handling of hazardous chemicals
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbal and written communication skills
  • Capability to work and communicate effectively within a team.

Education/Experience: B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry or related field completed and a 3.0 Cumulative GPA.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a laboratory in a research and development environment
  • Ability to identify and locate problems with equipment and electronics
  • Experience with pressurized gas systems
  • Experience with electrochemical systems

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
