Three wildlife technicians are needed to conduct surveys and assist with captures for Mexican spotted owls for a collaborative GPS tagging study through the University of New Mexico and the USFS Rocky Mountain Research Station. Wildlife technicians will conduct surveys for spotted owls, assess reproductive status, locate nest trees, assist with captures and handling of spotted owls, locate GPS tagged owls via telemetry. Care for equipment/lures, and record sighting of other animals encountered. Wildlife technicians will also record, transcribe, enter data into computer databases, and validate data that was collected in the field.
A typical work week is 40 hours, and infrequent camping is required. Schedules will be irregular, including evening, nighttime, and pre-dawn hours. Work will often require off-trail hiking in steep, forested terrain. Technicians must be respectful of others as well as work and live together cooperatively.

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred QualificationsPreferred qualified technicians will have a bachelor's degree in wildlife or related field, and/or have relevant experience conducting wildlife surveys.
Experience working in remote conditions.
