Kimley-Horn is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Raleigh, NC team as an Entry Level Electrical Engineer in Solar PV, BESS, Electric Vehicle Charging, and Photometric Design. In this role, you will work under the guidance of experienced engineers to support the design and development of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), electric vehicle charging (EVCs) sites, and photometric design. This is an excellent opportunity for an upcoming or recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in the renewable energy industry. Please note: this is not a remote position.
- Assist in the design and layout of solar PV systems, BESS, and EVCs sites including site analysis, system sizing, and equipment selection.
- Conduct electrical system analysis, including load calculations, voltage drop analysis, and short circuit calculations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective integration of solar PV systems into existing electrical infrastructure.
- Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and other design documents using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Support the procurement process by preparing requests for proposals (RFPs) and evaluating bids from equipment suppliers.
- Conduct field visits to solar PV project sites to gather data and verify design parameters.
- Assist in the preparation of construction documents, including electrical wiring diagrams, equipment specifications, and installation guidelines.
- Stay updated on industry trends, codes, and standards related to solar PV systems, and apply this knowledge to design projects.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure timely completion of design deliverables within budgetary constraints.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including design calculations, drawings, and correspondence.

- An ABET accredited Electrical Engineering degree (Bachelors or Masters) by Summer 2024.
- Knowledge of solar PV systems and their design considerations is preferred.
- Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD or Revit.
- Familiarity with electrical system analysis tools, such as ETAP, SKM, or PVSyst, is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Self-motivated and eager to learn and grow in the field of solar PV design.
