What you will do

In this vital role, you will provide engineering direction to execute sophisticated maintenance activities and/or to operate assigned equipment, facility, utility, and Electrical Systems in accordance with established guidelines and operating procedures. You will also conduct intermediate troubleshooting and employ advanced predictive technologies to identify root cause and appropriate corrective actions to diagnose or avert equipment problems. This role will be supporting the Amgen North Carolina Plant as part of the F&E Infrastructure operations department.
Independently provides and/or advises on process optimization strategies and/or troubleshooting of operational issues in the site utilities operation and Electrical systems. Applies advanced and diverse engineering principles to the design and implementation of major system modifications, experiments, process and/or capital projects. Develops, coordinates, analyzes, and presents interpretation of results for operational issues or engineering projects of significant scope and complexity.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Complete sophisticated or novel assignments requiring development of new and/or improved engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Design, review, and leads electrical systems and subsystems focusing on safety, EMC, power, and related applicable compliance.
  • Power, control, and communications architecture and design for product and its application environment.
  • Develop electrical requirements and site specifications.
  • Determine cost effective electrical design solutions for manufacturability.
  • Collaborate effectively with technical cross-discipline to develop innovative system solutions.
  • Prepare and conduct technical design reviews.
  • Develop engineering policies and procedures that affect multiple organizational units.
  • Supervise, coordinate and review work contractors/suppliers on an ongoing basis as well as on a project basis.
  • Employ sophisticated engineering techniques and/or modifications of advanced techniques within area of engineering expertise.
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices outside the area of expertise to a broad variety of assignments in related fields.
  • Serve as a peer-recognized engineering technology specialist for low and medium voltage electrical systems, with overall responsibility for determining methodologies in that area.
  • Lead the equipment's and/or systems related to the Site Electrical System.
  • Own and maintain related drawing and Single Line Diagrams.
  • Own and maintain Power Systems Study (short circuit, coordination and arc flash) - calculations and report to be completed by engineering firm
  • Provide mentorship and technical expertise to electricians to support the Site manufacturing operations.
  • Application of mature engineering knowledge in planning and conducting projects.
  • Operate under a culture of problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Prompt and regular attendance to workplace.
  • Work with global engineering, manufacturing, process development, utilities, facilities, quality assurance and validation departments in developing requirements and recommendations for large and/or highly complex system/facility modifications.
  • Work with project managers to complete design and engineering projects within schedule, budget, and quality constraints. Coordinate the work of consultants, architects, and engineering firms on development of design documents.
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems requiring the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
  • Interact effectively with variety of communication and working styles.
  • Management of contractors and vendors and develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.

Basic Qualifications:
  • High school diploma / GED and 10 years of Electrical Engineering experience OR
  • Associate's degree and 8 years of Electrical Engineering experience OR
  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Electrical Engineering experience OR
  • Master's degree and 2 years of Electrical Engineering experience OR
  • Doctorate degree
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Educational background in Electrical Engineering.
  • Possess an in depth technical understanding of: Transformers, Medium Voltage Generators, Uninterruptible Power Systems, Switchgears, Gas Insulated Medium Voltage Switchgear, Generator Paralleling Switchgear, Electrical System Protection and Coordination, System Controls, SCADA and Power Quality.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Knowledge in CCMS - MAXIMO - MMP.
  • Solid understanding/experience of drug substance equipment and utilities.
  • Familiarity with validation and documentation processes in a highly regulated environment.
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems. (Siemens).
  • Ability to operate specialized equipment & computers as appropriate, to interpret & apply GMPs and apply engineering science to improvements and troubleshooting.
  • In-depth knowledge of commissioning/validation processes as applied to new equipment installations.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects at one time.
  • Ability to provide solutions to a large variety of technical problems of moderate to large complexity and scope.
  • Problem solving skills based on scientific and engineering theory, calculations, and creativity.
  • Working knowledge in energy conservation projects and savings estimates.
  • Skills in the following areas: Negotiation, persuasion & facilitation Collaboration, Project cost development, Conflict Resolution, Leadership, and team building.
