Job Description
This quasi full-time position will serve as a one-stop resource in the high school and the EGSIC for middle majority students. The position will facilitate dual enrollment registrations and coordinate with Laurel Ridge Dual Enrollment (DE) Specialists to assist students interested in earning a degree or credential at the time of graduation. The Career Coach will coordinate career assessments, assist with writing academic career plans, and will serve as a resource to counselors and other staff in career counseling. The Career Coach will assist with post-graduation plans, including college placement testing, financial aid, trade and technical school applications, and support students planning to enter the workforce directly. The position will also work closely with the WBL coach or other school staff to support the integration of WBL experiences into the position including employability and soft skills training. The coach will stay informed about programs at the college including transfer and non-transfer degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates. They will attend training to stay current regarding program changes at Laurel Ridge and will complete all reports as required. Ten extra days are provided for the position to collect data and outcomes and prepare a year-end summary presentation for Laurel Ridge and invested partners.
The hiring range for this position is $40,839.00 - 52,920.00 per year, however, actual starting salary will commensurate with education and/or experience. The position is an administrative role and as such is eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia for state agencies and the Virginia Community College System. TeleworkAccording to DHRM policy 1.61 Teleworking, effective July 5, 2022, Virginia state employees will return to the workplace. Compensation and Benefits
The hiring range for this position is $40,839.00 - 52,920.00 per year, however, actual starting salary will commensurate with education and/or experience. This position is restricted with funding through June 14, 2024. Through a case management approach, this Academic Advisor will provide services to an assigned group of students in a variety of educational/career pathways by:
• Providing new student advising and remove registration holds, advise on programs and assign advisors, track student progression by utilizing Query Viewer, and coordinate with the Graduation Specialist on student completions.
• Connecting with assigned students at key periods throughout the semester, providing information, support, and resources to the student.
• Providing structured support and guidance to students at designated progression points to encourage undecided students to utilize "getting decided" resources and to guide students through timely and appropriate academic, career, and transfer planning steps.
• Utilizing retention initiatives to support students in their progression toward completion.
• Collaborating with meta-major program faculty for training and to be aware of program changes, and other discipline specific content.
• Keeping accurate and up-to-date records on students served.
• Making appropriate referrals to college and community resources.
Additionally, this position will represent and support student services via presentations, workshops, special events (commencement, new student welcome week, open houses, etc. and will provide office coverage as needed, including one evening per week. This position will serve the college on various committees, participate in a variety of student functions, and attend and share feedback from professional development.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Proven subject matter knowledge, which may be evidenced by training, experience, and/or credentials.

Additional Considerations
Previous secondary school experience, preferably in a high school setting, or related professional experiences
Experience utilizing oral and written communication skills in presentations and reports
Computer technology experience- Word, Excel, and other commonly used platforms
Experience administering and interpreting assessments.
Experience conducting workshops for small groups.
Demonstrated proficiency with computer software, and able to learn new software quickly
Demonstrated ability to work well with others.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
