Job description

Educate, Advocate, Celebrate…

For nearly 30 years, Rainbow Center (RC) has served as a resource hub for the LGBTQIA+ community in South Puget Sound. Rainbow Center has daily open hours, where resources—including a lending library, computer and Wi-Fi access, advocacy services, and educational materials—are available to community members. Each year we provide direct services to 1,000 individuals, greet almost 4,000 visits at Rainbow Center, and touch the lives of thousands more through events and partnerships.

Our Education Program offers high-quality workshops and training opportunities for individuals, businesses or groups that want to know more about how to engage, support, serve and increase their awareness/understanding of the LGBTQIA+ community. Finally, celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community is a huge part of our mission. We host social programs and events for the LGBTQIA+ community all year. We are also proud to host the two most amazing celebrations in Tacoma/Pierce County — Tacoma Pride and our annual Black & White Gayla.

· Represent RC in stakeholder groups, especially when groups define themselves as education, culture, or arts.

· Attend weekly team and staff meetings.

· Respond to inquiries, phone calls, and e-mail in a timely and responsive manner.

· Provide general assistance to larger scale RC programs to include but not limited to Tacoma Pride Festival and the annual Black & White Gayla.

· Acts as “Manager of the Day” one afternoon per week to assist the advocacy program with space management and community members who may need additional support during community hours.

· In collaboration with the Executive Director, developing and administering education budget.

· As part of the RC staff team, model and maintain a safe and respectful environment and ensure that RC visitors and volunteers are welcomed and cared for and follow established rules and boundaries.

· Research and identify educational needs regarding LGBTQIA+ issues in the community and update as needed.

· Develop and implement metrics to report progress, effectiveness and reach of program monthly. Including grant reporting.

· Responsible for quoting and invoicing clients for educational program delivery.

· Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

· Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or related field.

· Ability to develop educational curriculum specific to LGBTQIA+ awareness.

· Demonstrated experience (preferably 3-5 years) with providing educational programs to adult learners and the general public.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to work as a team member and work independently and with limited supervision.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and Power Point.
