The Education and Outreach Coordinator is responsible for assisting with all outreach and educational programming for youth and general audiences at Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium. Responsibilities include assisting with developing, scheduling and delivering K-12 and other youth field trip experiences, youth camps, birthday party, and community outreach activities.
The Education and Outreach Coordinator works closely with all members of the Flandrau team, University of Arizona faculty and staff, and community partners to deliver high quality, innovative, and sustainable programs for the community. This position is also responsible for providing administrative support to student staff during hours of operation.
The work schedule for the Education and Outreach Coordinator includes non-traditional hours, including weekends and occasional evening hours to fulfill the objectives of quality Education and Outreach programs.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesDuties& Responsibilities
- Serves as Flandrau's main point of contact for group scheduling and supervises the scheduling of birthday parties, K-12, and other group visits.
- Works collaboratively with Flandrau staff, University faculty, staff and students, and community partners to develop activities and demonstrations for use in the science center exhibits, planetarium theater, workshops, and for outreach and special events.
- Assists with researching, developing, and evaluating educational programming on a regular basis and implements changes as needed to expand and/or enhance program offerings.
- Ensures a consistent, high-quality experience for visitors by providing quality programming and excellent customer service.
- Assists with Fusion Camps curriculum development, registration, and daily operations.
- Follows university policies for working with minors to ensure safety of campers and other minors.
- Assists with the inventory of supplies needed for educational programs, including those necessary for daily demonstrations, special events, birthday parties, discovery programs, etc.
- Supports the organization, coordination, and delivery of outreach events at Flandrau and off-site locations for family and general audiences.
- Assists with recruiting, hiring, training, evaluation of competency, and supervision and support of education student staff.
- Responsible for being knowledgeable about the organizational operations and procedures; and ensuring (within a rotation of other Flandrau staff) proper procedure for opening and closing is followed and provide admin support to all scheduled student staff.

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of Education and work experience.
- Experience working with children in K-12 classroom and large group settings.
- Experience planning or coordinating events and facilitating youth camp programs.
- Curriculum development experience.
- Experience with grant writing.
- Experience working in an educational setting, science center, planetarium, or museum environment.
- Supervisory and customer service experience.
