Position Description

    • Position Summary
    • (Classified as: Student Services Professional III)
      Full-time position available on or after January 12, 2024 for the Early Assessment Program.

      Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, the Early Assessment Program (EAP) Coordinator oversees all aspects of the EAP program at Stanislaus State's six-county service region (Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Merced, Mariposa, Tuolumne, and Calaveras). The EAP Coordinator will plan and deliver services in accordance with the California State University (CSU) objectives and the university's strategic plan. The EAP Coordinator will develop strategies to increase understanding of EAP, the California Assessment for Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), and the multiple measures used for placement in English and Mathematics. The incumbent will maintain regular contact with high school counselors to keep them informed of EAP policy changes. The EAP Coordinator collaborates with school districts and university faculty to help students strengthen their English and Mathematics skills in order to succeed academically at Stanislaus State. The EAP Coordinator will conduct outreach activities in secondary schools, coordinate meetings, and monitor the program's impact in the region. The EAP Coordinator will offer individual and group counseling to students, conduct workshops and class presentations to emphasize the importance of English and Mathematics on post-secondary success. The incumbent will attend meetings throughout the university's service region as well as system-wide EAP meetings hosted through the Chancellor's Office.

    • Job Duties
    • Duties include but are not limited to:
      • Establish and maintain direct contact with high school counselors and teachers to identify students who are "Conditionally Ready, Not Yet Ready, or not Ready" for college-level English and Mathematics based on scores from the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). Help schools interpret test scores for their students.
      • Implement the Chancellor's Office Executive Order 1100 and expanding Multiple Measures, including HS GPA, Math GPA, and senior year approved coursework.
      • Interpret and communicate new policies on English and Mathematics placement.
      • Communicate Multiple Measures to high school students, incoming freshmen, counselors and administrators.
      • Serve on work groups related to academic preparation and achievement.
      • Plan and implement professional development trainings for high school teachers who wish to adopt new mathematics and quantitative reasoning courses.
      • Conduct presentations on college readiness at local high schools.
      • Promote the purpose and value of college readiness to high school students, teachers, counselors, and administrators. Write and distribute an EAP Newsletter with information on college readiness and important EAP updates.
      • Serve as a liaison between Stanislaus State and the Chancellor's Office, and represent EAP regionally and state-wide.
      • Provide schools with options for students to improve their college readiness during their senior year. Review CSU placement standards with high school seniors and school partners.
      • Attend outreach events to promote college readiness.
      • Evaluate the effectiveness of the program through quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods and make recommendations to EAP/Early Start Advisory Committee.
      • Develop and monitor program budget to ensure expenditures are appropriate.
      • Communicate EAP updates and changes with other campus departments.
      • Track students and prepare campus and Chancellor Office reports. Monitor college readiness indicators at Stanislaus State.
      • Provide College Readiness support and trainings to campus partners and raise awareness of EAP priorities.
      • Coordinate ERWC and math certification workshops for high school teachers every semester.
      • Plan and coordinate an annual EAP Partner Breakfast for local high school and district counselors and administrators.
      • Establish and maintain a relationship with district and high school administrators to ensure that they have an understanding of the goals, policies, and procedures related to College Readiness, EAP, and CAASPP.
      • Lead and facilitate monthly College Readiness/EAP advisory meetings which include faculty for the English and Mathematics departments.
      • Coordinate the delivery of test scores with enrollment services and document multiple measures in PeopleSoft.
      • Develop and maintain the EAP/College Readiness website. Update content with the most current EAP information.
      • Serve on committees on- and off-campus, including Stan Futures, and Cradle to Career.
      • Serve as the liaison to EAP for local school districts. 
      • Help coordinate outreach events (Open House, Warrior Welcomes, CLYC, Partner Breakfasts, WACAC, and CSU Counselor Conference). Promote EAP at these events through resource tables and presentations.
      • Maintain current knowledge of University courses, majors, prerequisites, general education, procedures, rules and regulations, and other student services including financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
      • Attend training sessions and professional development conferences and meetings.
      • Supervise and train EAP student staff/ambassadors and coordinate their presentation schedules, time-sheets, and other student staff duties.
      • Other duties as assigned.
    • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.

      Experience: Equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. (A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.)

    • Preferred Qualifications

      • Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills.
      • Ability to work an adjusted schedule (evenings and weekends) as required.
      • Knowledge of CSU admission requirements and policies.
      • Excellent public speaking skills.
      • Knowledge and extensive experience utilizing a personal computer and software applications for work processing, spreadsheets, database management, internet communications and electronic calendaring systems.
      • Bilingual - English and Spanish.
    • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

      • General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management.
      • General knowledge of research and interview techniques.
      • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations.
      •  Ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements.

      • Ability to reason logically; ability to collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentation based on these data.
      • Ability to recognize multicultural, multi-sexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly.
      • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas.
      • Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
      • General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures, activities and practices of the program area to which assigned.
      • General knowledge of individual counseling techniques.
      • General knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the overall operation, functions, programs, organizational procedures, and activities of the campus.
      • Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
      • Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
      • Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters.
      • Ability to determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature.
      • Ability to interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.
      • Ability to carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions.
      • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals to include faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, and other private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts.

    • Salary Range
    • Anticipated salary will be $5,025 - $5,528 per month plus excellent paid benefits. Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist. (Full Student Services Professional III range: $5,025 - $7,159 per month)
