Division of Water Resources (DWR):
State Engineer's Office
Our mission is to administer the waters of the State to maximize lawful beneficial use, ensure that dams and water wells are properly constructed and safe, and provide information about water resources to the public. Division of Water Resources
This work unit exists to provide technical expertise related to the data collection and management processes of the State Engineer and the Division of Water Resources. In addition to supporting the day-to-day administration duties of the division, this team also supports the Colorado Decision Support System (CDSS), a collaborative, data-centric system of tools and information available to the public. The unit uses and develops engineering and data management tools to assist the division in the collection, storage, reporting and use of: GIS data and applications, tabular data in Hydrobase, such as water rights, diversion records, groundwater level data, well permit data, well metering data, etc, and electronic documents and process information workflow.
The purpose of this position is to help create, analyze, publish and maintain DWR Official GIS Datasets for the entire State and support DWR staff through technical analyses and GIS expertise. In addition, this position will provide GIS services to the division, including performing specialized custom GIS mapping projects which requires knowledge about various aspects of water administration.
Specific job duties include but are not limited to:
- This position would be required to assist in the development, analysis, publication and maintenance of irrigated lands datasets, which are a component of the DWR Official Datasets.
- This position will review all available State Engineers Office data to determine and capture the correct alignment of irrigation ditches in relation to the irrigated parcels they serve.
- Decides irrigation extents, crop type, irrigation practice and acres of irrigated land when providing irrigated lands support.
- Determine, from the best available data sources, the correct alignment of an irrigation ditch system and delineate and assign attributes properly.
- Research and identify the location, alignment, extents, name and flow direction of water right sources using available data and add GIS information for such sources.
- This position will assist in special GIS analysis projects as necessary and requested by other DWR staff.
- Research an area in question, determine available historical imagery, orthorectify the imagery for use in GIS software and deliver the completed analysis to the division engineer.

OR
Two (2) years of experience in an occupational field relevant to the work assigned to the position.
AND
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a field of study relevant to the work assignment.

- Experience with MS 365 and/or Google Workspace tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets.
- Other experience relevant to the use or management of water resources.
The current work arrangement for this position is as follows:

- Hybrid schedule - after initial training period, working from a home office in combination with 2-3 days in the Denver Office (1313 Sherman St., Denver, CO) as worked out with supervisor.
