The Role
The core function of The Dispatch / Load Planner is to coordinate, negotiate and efficiently optimize loads for company assets with continuous improvement in increasing profitability. Load Planners will interface with both internal and external customers as a point of contact with the goal of developing a relationship with them resulting in a continuous revenue pipeline or recurring revenues. The use of technology platforms and tools will be used to increase automation and drive efficiency. Researching, planning, tracking, and troubleshooting operational issues will be made visible to management.
Responsibilities
- Solicit Load on load board, including DAT, Logistic technology apps, and client and broker portals.
- Negotiates spot rates with customers and brokers daily and makes decisions on behalf of the company within parameters (e.g., negotiate the best rate); makes the best financial decision as representative of the company and its driivers.
- On-boarding calls and performance calls to ensure carrier leadership and Operations personnel handle freight in accordance with companies expectations
- Responsible for the development and execution of strategic initiatives that improve service, financial savings, efficiency, productivity, and communication to client
- Works with IT implementation team to validate and improve TMS performance; assists with strategic initiatives to increase automation and efficiency
- Validates and approves accrual reports provided by the Billing Team before clients are billed each week
- Direct CSRs to determine which freight tenders to accept or decline based on truck availability. Plan freight based on priority with the most efficient means possible.
- Planning and implementing processes as needed to improve routing and equipment utilization and performance. Minimize deadhead mileage and transit times.
- Identifies and leverages system automation and technical knowledge to be integrated into daily routines of business
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Solicit freight orders from assigned customer base via a multitude of communication exchanges on assigned schedule days, commensurate with company and business level needs.
- Match freight loads with the optimal driver base and customer needs within the dedicated account covering during scheduled shift.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience with Transportation Management Systems
- Experience with optimization tools preferred
- PC literate with experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Access and Excel
- Excellent written and oral communication skills that demonstrate a proven ability to develop relationships with a range of internal and external customers
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Superior analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Extreme patience dealing with volatile situations; strong follow-up procedures.
- Comprehensive knowledge of DOT regulations impacting daily operations.
- Strategic and innovative thinker with proven leadership and problem solving skills.
