DISPATCH JOB DESCRIPTION
Dispatchers will perform a variety of scheduling duties including: home-to-school (general and special ed), summer school routes, athletic events, field trips and special events; assign drivers to routes according to established procedures. In addition to essential dispatch duties, Dispatchers are required to perform simple admin duties and data entry.

REQUIREMENTS
*High School diploma or GED equivalent.
*Excellent communication skills in English.
*Spanish, as a second language is desired but not required.
* 3+ years of experience in dispatch.
*Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook
*Possession of a valid and appropriate California driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
* Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate.
SKILLS
*Operate all office equipment.
*Operate phone and hand held radios.
*Use and operate all computer programs and applications necessary: internet, Excel, Word, Outlook, and various mapping applications.
*Routing and scheduling procedures.
*Learn and apply all necessary operations, policies and objectives.
*Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
*Record-keeping techniques.
*Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities.
*Operation of a computer terminal.
*Oral and written communication skills.
* Maintaining all required files and documentation pertaining to dispatch.
ABILITIES:
* Use complex routing systems to schedule, route, reroute and monitor the dispatching activities of buses for: home-to-school, special education and special events.
*Assure safe, efficient, timely and accurate transportation of students.
*Coordinate schedules and assignments and design routes.
*Effectively communicate with schools, administrators, drivers, students, parents, colleagues in a fast-paced and/or stressful environment (interpersonal, electronically and telephone skills).
*Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures to others.
*Read bus schedules.
*Analyze situations and problem solve. When extreme circumstances arise, communicating this with Director of Operations.
*Observe legal and defensive driving practices.
*Organize and prioritize time to balance conflicting demands related to customer care and dispatching.
*Communicate all changes to drivers, Director of Operations, and customers in various ways; email, postings, and verbally.
