Key Responsibilities:
The Director of Talent Acquisition - Flight Operations is responsible for implementing and leading strategic recruitment and employment programs. Working closely with enterprise-wide project teams, this position will be integral in defining how we attract, assess, hire, and develop critical talent populations, establishing United Airlines as the employer of choice. This role will deliver innovative and practical talent solutions to drive performance in our dynamic constantly evolving business environment.
  • Lead the process of sourcing and hiring world class pilots that support current and future workforce needs, including First Officer hiring, the Aviate program, and other related initiatives
  • Build a strategy and oversee data-driven approach to integrate various pilot hiring initiatives to meet individual program goals while also achieving mainline hiring targets
  • Build and cultivate relationships with hiring leaders and other collaborators, acting as a trusted advisor to shape talent strategy and create measurable business impact
  • Coach, guide, develop and mentor recruitment team members to ensure they are well-equipped to effectively advise with hiring managers and to efficiently deliver well-qualified candidates
  • Implement strategies to ensure equity at all stages of the recruiting process
  • Constantly seeking ways to develop a strong, diverse candidate pool and ensure access to opportunity for all qualified applicants, including engagement with leading industry partners
  • Develop innovative, data-driven ways to market and communicate job opportunities at United, including pilot hiring and hard to fill roles elsewhere in the organization. Support our hiring event strategy and efforts to promote those events
  • Lead with an agile approach, focused on problem solving through creative process and technology solutions

This position is Hybrid and will be based in Chicago with up to 25% travel.

Qualifications
What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Bachelors' degree or 12+ years equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years' experience leading a TA or related function (e.g., high volume operational recruiting, management and administrative recruiting and, talent/workforce development strategy)
  • Strong strategic and business partner orientation combined with excellent program/project management and stakeholder management skills
  • Comfort with technology and demonstrated track record to implement modern HR technologies and process solutions
  • Capability for thorough analysis; leading a proactive, data-driven approach to strategy, organizational management and continuous improvement
  • Compassionate leadership with strong coaching skills. Ability to coach leaders throughout the business on Talent Acquisition strategy and standard processes
  • Innovative attitude: ability to design, build and pilot initiatives that drive desired outcomes; can scale successful programs
  • Voice of leadership who translates conviction to inspiration, knowledgeable about current market trends and competitive data
  • Strong track-record in inclusion recruiting with a track record of success in building strategies to attract and hire under-represented talent
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal presentation skills
  • Highly credible executive demeanor and presence

  • 5+ years of experience leading an operations recruiting function
