Founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1948, Stonehill is a private Catholic college located just 22 miles from downtown Boston on a beautiful 384-acre campus in Easton, Massachusetts. The Coordinator of Residential Education/Residence Director (CRE/RD) for the Holy Cross Center is responsible for all initiatives pertaining to residential education while also serving as the Residence Director of the Holy Cross Center, a first-year hall with approximately 160 students. This position performs a variety of important daily operation tasks including supervision of professional staff, recruitment, and training of paraprofessional staff, adjudicating conduct cases, serving as a liaison to campus partners, and representing the department on divisional and college-wide committees.

In both of these roles, the CRE/RD must facilitate the comprehensive development and management of a supportive living and learning environment grounded in student development theory and best practices that support the mission of Stonehill College. This individual devotes particular attention to the inclusive nature of the Stonehill community, fostering greater diversity within the staff and student body, as well as the greater breadth of thought across the institution. This position reports to the Director of Residence Life.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the oversight, management, and operation of a first-year, traditional-style residential area on campus.
  • Supervises 5 paraprofessional staff members and advises Hall Council.
  • Familiarizes self with the students in the area and shows concern for each resident’s welfare.
  • Counsels and refers students to appropriate campus services and maintains an active presence in the residence hall.
  • Serve as a critical leader in fostering a campus culture in which differences are embraced and works to advance the College’s mission of diversity and inclusion.
  • Lead the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of all Resident Assistants.
  • Administer the Special Interest Housing program which currently includes Wellness, Social Justice, Honors, and First-Generation Scholars.
  • Serve as a critical leader in fostering a campus culture in which differences are embraced, and work to advance the College’s mission of diversity and inclusion.
  • Oversee the departmental implementation and development of the Residence Life Curriculum, tracking of campus-wide RA programming, and the implementation of departmental traditions and events.
  • Monitor the Resident Assistant staff training budget.
  • Collaborates with Campus Ministry to provide opportunities for faith development in the residence halls.
  • Interprets and enforces college policies and facilitates conduct meetings under the direction of the Office of Community Standards.
  • Oversees the physical maintenance of the residence area and communicates maintenance needs to Facilities.
  • Assist the Director with the coordination of our pastoral residents.
  • Manage all aspects of the Community Associate program.
  • Responsible for Resident Assistant Council, paraprofessional staff socials, and fundraisers.
  • Coordinate full staff meetings twice a semester for the Resident Assistant staff.
  • Design and facilitate the New Resident Assistant and Head Resident Assistant spring courses.
  • Conduct assessments of the RA experience in partnership with the assessment coordinator.
  • Initiate and implement departmental recognition efforts for residents, students, and professional staff.
  • Prepare, publish, and maintain the RD, GA, and RA staff manuals. Organize and maintain the Resident Assistant Microsoft Teams site and departmental SharePoint files.
  • Work with the Residence Hall Association and their advisor to coordinate the Hall Council election process and Hall Council leadership trainings. Attend Residence Hall executive board meetings, programs, and trainings as needed.
  • Serve as the departmental coordinator for collaborative programs, trainings, processes, or conferences with partners on and off campus.
  • Lead campus-wide initiatives and programs as requested by the Director.
  • Assist the Director with Residence Director staff recruitment, selection, and training.
  • Serve on the Orientation and Student Affairs Diversity committees.
  • Attend Student Engagement programs on and off campus as requested by the Director.
  • Participate in the staff-on-call weekly rotation with the Associate Vice-President/Dean of Students, Director of Community Standards, Director of Residence Life, and other administrators.
  • Serve as a student conduct hearing officer as needed by the Director of Community Standards.
  • Assist the Director in strategic planning for the department and assessing student needs.
  • Participate in weekly professional staff, central office staff, and one-on-one supervisory meetings.
  • Participates as a member of the College community in events and activities including Skyhawk Welcome Days, Student Engagement Programs, Convocation, Commencement Weekend, and Athletic games.
  • Additional duties, projects, committees, and responsibilities as assigned by the Director.
  • Assists with the long-range planning of the Residence Life Office.

Education & Experience

A Master’s degree in supervision, crisis management, programming, and student support along with experience in a Residence Life is required. Two plus years of full-time residence life experience with a demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations and the capacity to develop and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse academic community.
