- Serve as a liaison between the District and partner organizations, private schools and facilities, and other agencies and school districts.
- Assist with design, analysis and implementation of program outcome studies, and make recommendations on the policies, practices and procedures regarding the operation of and implementation of special education services.
- Assist in planning budgetary resources for Student Services programs.
- Serves as one of the leaders for developing professional learning opportunities related to special education and Student Services in District 62.
- Ensure resources, professional learning, and policies align with local, state and federal policies and procedures.
- Assist with curriculum selection and implementation for tiered interventions and special education programs.
- Supervise and evaluate certified and non-certified staff where assigned.
- Assist in recruiting, induction, developing and retaining high performing certified and non-certified dedicated to ensuring equitable outcomes for students
- Work with district and building administrative personnel on professional staffing decisions.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders regarding best practices for students with a wide range of learning needs.
- Effectively utilize conflict resolution strategies and problem-solving skills to address student, family, team or organizational issues.
- Coordinate, facilitate, and participate in parent meetings, family nights, parent education events and parent conferences when appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent or other appropriate personnel
- The maintenance of special education records and student records
- Managing grants and filing appropriate claims for the special education program
- Providing budget projections for special education programs
- Managing the District nursing staff
- Managing schedules for all related service providers
- Maintaining compliance with all state and federal regulations related to special education/504 and Student Services (including DCFS/Youth in Care and McKinney Vento)
- Overseeing the management of 504 plans for the district
- Coordinating before and after school program options
- The development, organization, and supervision of ESY
- Must hold and be eligible for a current Illinois Professional Educator License with an Administrative endorsement. Director of Special Education endorsement required.
- ISBE Teacher Qualified Evaluator
- Masters' Degree in the field of psychology, special education, social work, school counseling, or related field, preferred
- At least five years of progressive experience in special education or Student Services leadership
- Experience working with students with diverse special education and/or behavioral needs, preferred
- Demonstrated multiple experiences of coordinating professional development with teachers, preferred
- Possess a thorough understanding of state and federal special education law, policy and procedures
- Experience using data to inform decision-making, and working collegially with others
- Experience participating on school or district committees focusing on data driven instruction, special education, social emotional learning, positive behavior interventions/supports, restorative practices and/or related topics.
- Experience serving in school or district leadership roles
- Demonstrated strong organizational, problem-solving and human relations skills.Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and taste or smell.

- Work is usually conducted indoors, but there is outdoor work expected on a regular basis to supervise children, and assist with arrival and dismissal
- Attendance at scheduled community, district and school events after the school day may be required.
