Job Summary:
The Director of Service is responsible for managing Service Managers employed by American Power Systems (APS) and is responsible for maintaining existing client relations as well as cultivating new business. The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of the DC Power industry as it relates to the three primary markets served by APS (Telecom, UPS, and Utility). The position is remote but this person will make frequent visits to customer sites and regional APS locations (Kent, WA, Anaheim, CA & Stockton, CA) as needed.
Essential Duties:
- Manage the administrative and customer service functions of the regional Service Department.
- Maintain open and positive communication (both in verbal and written form) with employees, departments, customers, and vendors.
- Ensure appropriate staffing level and workload distribution to meet customer and business needs.
- Use networking skills to communicate with others outside APS.
- Provide expert solutions with the ability to think through all possibilities when posed with problems to arrive at an appropriate solution.
- Assure compliance with company policies and recommend policy changes as needed.
- Maintain efficient operation and expense control of their Service region.
- Analyze service productivity and profitability and recommend changes to improve efficiency, customer service, and profitability.
- Proactive management of all service personnel including hiring, training, motivation, career development, and safety.
- Uphold high-quality service delivery in a safe, productive, efficient, and profitable manner.
- Perform annual reviews and develop career planning for service employees.
- Ensure adequate inventory of major tools and vehicles.
- Serve as the acting Service Manager in any APS facility as necessary during employee PTO or absence, in between hiring periods, or when demand requires multiple personnel in any given office.
- Coordinate technician availability amongst regional offices to ensure proper staffing levels.
- Communicate and coordinate with other APS departments including Sales, Customer Service, Engineering, Accounting, and Compliance departments.
Requirements:
- Five (5) years of experience as:
o Service Manager or equivalent, managing installers/service technicians in markets served by the organization.
o EF&I (EPC) experience – survey, engineer, specify, and quote service work.
o Level 4 DC Power Technician in the Telecommunications Industry or equivalent.
o Experience installing batteries in the Uninterruptible Power System (UPS) Industry or equivalent.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and integrated software applications.
- Organizational skills and the ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.
- Familiar with the electrical field's concepts, practices, best practices, and procedures including the technical ability to understand and interpret Electrical Codes, Life Safety Codes, NFPA, Uniform Building Codes, and Lighting Systems where applicable.
- Experience and knowledge of DC Power applications, permits, electrical maintenance goals, Facility Maintenance Applications, and PM standards.
- Expertise in estimating and providing timely proposals as required by APS customers.
- Strong interpersonal skills as well as high-quality customer service and professionalism.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong writing skills, general math skills, and strong communication skills.
