Director of School Partnerships and Organizing

Job Description

We would love for you to consider joining FIA Oakland as our Director of School Partnerships and Organizing.

About Families in Action for Quality Education

The Families in Action for Quality Education coalition (FIA Oakland) unites 40 district and charter school communities representing 16,500 students to build leadership, influence and political power to reposition families, youth and stakeholders as influential school and city-wide leaders. In addition to power building, FIA has a robust and creative approach to new media, hosting podcasts, awards shows and digital media that amplifies our mission. Since 2019 FIA has trained over 500 parent and youth leaders who lead impactful campaigns at the school and city level to advance policy and practice changes. FIA has become a force to be reckoned with in Oakland public education.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will report to the CEO with coaching from FIA’s senior organizing consultant in order to:

  • Lead impactful collaboration with school partners to build a vision, capacity and structures for powerful family leadership.

  • Collaboratively develop and manage to project goals and milestones.

  • Build school leader and CEO capacity to lead the culture and systems change required to leverage family leadership and create impact in their schools.

  • Partner with a strong team of organizers who develop family coordinators, parents and youth to lead in school and city-wide campaigns.

  • Support organizers to partner with schools in service of campaign and partnership goals, using the principles and practices of community organizing in order to build sustainable parent and youth-driven organizations.

Additional skills, duties and responsibilities

  • Strong interpersonal and trust-building skills; proven ability to form relationships and collaborate effectively in service of shared goals.

  • Strategically develop, coordinate and align the work of School leaders and FIA organizers in school based campaigns within a dynamic school ecosystem.

  • Develop and adjust strategy and goals; manage toward quarterly milestones and communicate progress effectively.

  • Manage projects with clear goals, milestones and and use organizational tools including monday.com for project management. Leverage CRM to track and manage stakeholder engagement data.

  • Engage with funders and contribute to grant management and reporting.

  • Work in concert with the FIA communications team to increase synergy and impact.

  • Work in collaboration with the Senior Organizing Consultant to support organizer development.

Your Resources:

  • Partner with nationally recognized partners including Energy Convertors, State of Black Education and Great School Voices.

  • Coaching and development from CEO and senior organizing consultant.

Compensation

We offer a competitive salary, benefits and retirement package. Annual salary ranges from $125,000 - $160,000 depending on candidate experience, qualifications and potential in the role.

Your Qualifications

Required:

  • Strong strategic thinking skills and an ability to analyze policies and institutions

  • Highly-organized and able to manage multiple priorities

  • Successful experience working in and contributing to dynamic school organizations and culture of continuous improvement.

  • 5+ years of School leadership experience including family partnership or community organizing, education and strategy, preferable in low-income communities of color.

  • Understanding of the historical and root causes of educational inequities in the United States (ie., systemic racism, white privilege and power). Understanding of the public education and education reform landscape

  • Experience developing and supporting public policy solutions to local or regional problems

  • Academic or experiential knowledge in building political power in low-income and multilingual communities of color

  • Strong ability to write and speak clearly and persuasively, including public speaking in small and large group settings

  • Possess a Baccalaureate degree.

  • A valid driver's license and reliable, insured vehicle

  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States

Preferred:

  • Proficiency in Spanish (preferred not required)

  • Master’s Degree in a related field
