Department or School Site The mission of the Los Angeles Unified School District Facilities
Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Department is to maintain, repair,
and operate buildings and grounds efficiently, effectively, and sustainably
in a manner that promotes learning and a safe, clean, and healthy
environment for students, faculty, and staff. Positions in this
classification are responsible for the oversight of all maintenance and

Job Duties/Responsibilities A Regional Facilities Director provides overall administrative and
functional management of maintenance and operations services to an
assigned geographic facilities region by managing and directing the
maintenance and operations activities and overseeing the execution of
bond and other specifically funded projects through subordinate
administrators. The Regional Facilities Director also confers and
maintains liaisons with administrators, parents, faculty, other school
stakeholders, and senior management personnel.
Minimum Requirements PROMOTIONAL STATUS IS REQUIRED. You must be a current or
retired employee of LAUSD with 130 paid days in regular status in the
Classified Service or permanent status in the Certificated Service or
have been laid-off within the past 39 months from a regular, permanent
LAUSD position in which you passed probation.
Education:
Graduation from a recognized college or university, with a bachelor’s
degree preferably in architecture, engineering, urban planning, business
management, public administration, construction management, facilities
management or a related field. Courses in business administration,
public relations, maintenance planning, accounting, school finance,
personnel management, and communications are preferable. Additional
qualifying experience beyond that required may be substituted for up to
two years of the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Experience:
Four years of management experience managing large programs or
projects in facilities maintenance or construction valued in excess of $10
million involving capital projects and/or facilities maintenance and/or
operations for an ASSIGNED MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS
AREA OR DISTRICT-WIDE PROGRAMS. Experience working for a
primary or secondary school district, or public institution, which included
maintenance and operations, planning or design and construction is
preferable. Experience with enterprise maintenance management
systems is preferable.
Desirable Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a talented, motivated leader and decision maker
who is results focused with a strong technical background in overseeing
facility maintenance and operations and facilities modernization and
construction programs. He or she will possess the knowledge and skills
needed to efficiently and effectively accomplish organizational goals and
objectives and have the critical competencies necessary to oversee a
large facilities management operation. Strong communication skills, both
orally and in writing are preferred. Additionally, the ideal candidate will
have experience managing a large budget and monitoring expenditures.

Selection and promotion are based on a competitive employment
assessment process. Candidates who pass all parts of the assessment
process are placed on a hiring (eligibility) list based on their assessment
