JOB SUMMARY:
- The Director of Nursing is a Registered Nurse with experience in the practice of Nursing and possessing advanced studies and expertise in the administration of Nursing Services.
- The Director of Nursing has the authority, responsibility, and accountability for structuring, comprehensive planning, and implementing the Nursing Service Program.
Education:
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
- 2 years of supervisory experience in an acute setting recommended.
- Emergency Room, Communicable Disease, with Medical and Surgical experience preferred.
- Have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse within the state of employment.
- Obtain and maintain CPR certification.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates in planning, priority setting, and the development of policies and procedures for health care activities.
- Coordinates and monitors orientation, in-service training, and continuing education with the H.S.A.
- Conducts recruitment/retention efforts for nursing service.
- Prepares/submits reports as requested for Health Services Administrator (H.S.A.) in a timely manner.
- Responds to a code or health emergency within standard guidelines.
- Conducts regular monthly meetings with nursing staff.
- Manages on-call for nursing emergencies and nursing staff.
- Develops and maintains staffing schedule for Nursing.
- Ensures the practice of Nursing is consistent with current standards.
- Serves as a representative for and/or liaison between nursing services and other health care providers.
- Supports and participates in evaluation designed to improve work conditions and patient care.
- Participates and maintains a good relationship with community organizations.
- Reports all communicable diseases to the local/state health authorities.
- Reviews all discrepancies in sharps and tool counts, and investigates, reconciles and forwards written findings to H.S.A. and facility security staff.
- Assesses established policies and procedures with re-review as needed.
- Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations.
- Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
- Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
- Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND CONDITIONS:
- Works in a clean well-lit environment with fluctuating temperatures.
- Requires substantial periods of work utilizing a computer, monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
- Requires lifting and carrying equipment and supplies weighing up to 35 pounds;
- Requires pushing and pulling equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 pounds;
- Requires walking and standing; requires sitting;
- Requires the ability to negotiate stairs; requires the ability to lift patients in and out of bed, wheelchair, and/or stretcher;
- Requires the ability to reach or bend frequently;
- Requires visual acuity and manual dexterity to operate equipment.
- Potential for exposure to blood and/or body substances and hazardous materials requiring observance of Standard Precautions and safe handling practices.
- This job primarily operates independently in a facility.
- This job is performed in a correctional facility, client site, or counseling center including minimum, medium or maximum security levels.
- Employees are exposed to some level of risk and/or harm by inmates including exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
- Employee is expected to work in accordance with all security rules and regulations to minimize the risk of danger and/or harm to themselves or other employees.
- This position may require travel depending on specific needs.
