Company and Positon Overview:
The City of Louisville, Colorado is a vibrant community conveniently located between Denver and
Boulder. The Louisville Fire District is currently searching for a Human Resources Director to provide
strategic thinking and leadership in continuing building on new Human Resources systems and processes.
The Human Resources Director will:
• Assess the strategic direction, mission and values of the Louisville Fire District leadership team
and develop a Human Resources strategy that will most effectively serve the District.
• Evaluate our current Human Resources processes and procedures and help develop new systems
and processes to best serve all team members.
• Make sure that Human Resources functions work well with other Fire District systems and
processes (Payroll & Record Management Systems).
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide administrative and technical support to the Fire Chief and other members of the
District.
• Manage some risk management programs like worker compensation.
• Manage benefits programs and serve as communication coordinator for these programs.
• Maintain Department administrative and personnel records, and databases.
• Recruitment, hiring process, and onboarding
Required competencies and capabilities:
• The ability to assess District needs, do research if needed and develop high quality human
resources systems and processes.
• Knowledge and experience running multiple areas of Human Resources including:
o Candidate screening and employment verifications
o New employee onboarding
o Employee engagement
o Employee relations
o Employee benefits
o Workman’s compensation claims and Management
o Recruiting
o Talent management/ performance reviews
o Exit interviews
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Great customer service skills in interactions with Fire District leaders, team members and
community members.
• Public relations skills when interacting with community members.
• Ability and desire to listen to employee and leader issues, develop solutions and make
recommendations to District leaders.
• Comfort with technology and interest in learning new software and adopting new solutions to
improve efficiencies.
• Schedule flexibility to respond to needs of team members on multiple shifts.
• Demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
Preferred competencies and experience:
• Experience and understanding of Human Resources requirements and needs in a union
environment.
• Experience working in a public sector organization preferably Fire or Police Departments.
Experience:
• Progressive Human Resources: 2 years (Required)
• Human Resources Management: 2 years (Required)
• Public Sector Department : 1 year (Preferred)
• Candidate screening and employment verification: 1 year (Preferred)
• Employee benefits: 1 year (Preferred)
• Facilitating meetings: 1 year (Preferred)
• Workman's Comp: 1 year (Preferred)
• Supervisory: 1 year (Required)
• Payroll: 1 year (Preferred)
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in related field (Required)
• Master’s degree in related field (Preferred)
