About the role

As the Director of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) within our bank, you will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive Enterprise Risk Management framework. You will play a critical role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across all areas of the bank's operations to ensure the institution operates within acceptable risk tolerances while achieving its strategic objectives.

Duties and responsibilities of the job include the following (but is not limited too):

  • Enterprise Risk Framework: Develop and maintain the bank's Enterprise Risk Management framework, including policies, procedures, and methodologies for identifying, assessing, and managing risks.
  • Risk Identification and Assessment: Lead efforts to identify and assess risks inherent in the bank's activities, including credit risk, market risk, operational risk, liquidity risk, and compliance risk.
  • Risk Appetite and Tolerance: Work with senior management and the board of directors to establish and communicate the bank's risk appetite and tolerance levels, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Monitoring and Reporting: Establish processes for ongoing monitoring and reporting of key risk indicators (KRIs) and risk exposures, providing regular updates to senior management, the board, and relevant committees.
  • Risk Mitigation Strategies: Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and controls to manage identified risks effectively, including the development of risk mitigation action plans and oversight of their implementation.
  • Stress Testing and Scenario Analysis: Coordinate the development and execution of stress testing and scenario analysis exercises to assess the bank's resilience to adverse economic and market conditions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the bank's Risk Management practices comply with all applicable regulatory requirements, including Basel III, Dodd-Frank Act, and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Risk Culture and Awareness: Promote a strong Risk Management culture throughout the organization, providing training and awareness programs to ensure all employees understand their roles and responsibilities in managing risk.
  • Internal Audit and External Examinations: Collaborate with internal audit teams and external examiners to facilitate risk-related audits and examinations, providing necessary documentation and support.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the ERM function, implementing best practices and leveraging technology to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Risk Management processes.

Preferred experience, education, and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Risk Management, business administration, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (eg, FRM, PRM, CFA) is preferred.
  • Extensive experience (15+ years) in Enterprise Risk Management or a related field within the banking or financial services industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of Risk Management principles, practices, and methodologies, including risk assessment techniques, risk modeling, and scenario analysis.
  • Strong understanding of banking regulations and regulatory requirements related to Risk Management, including Basel III, stress testing, and risk governance standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex risks and develop pragmatic solutions to mitigate them.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization and drive change initiatives.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, with experience leading cross-functional teams and managing projects to successful completion.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Perform quality work within determined timeframes
  • Interact professionally with other employees, customers, vendors and shareholders
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees, departments, divisions, etc.
  • Work on ad-hoc tasks, assignments and projects as needed

Potential Salary: $250,000 - $300,000 annually

This salary range only reflects base wages and does not include benefits, bonus, or incentive pay. Salary bands are purposefully wide ranging to encompass the different factors considered in determining where a candidate falls in the range, including but not limited to, seniority, performance, experience, education, and any other legitimate, non-discriminatory factor permitted by law.
