Director of Development-Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing

Position Summary
The Director of Development for the Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions is responsible for qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of benefactors for this academic school. The primary purpose of this position is to generate significantly greater philanthropic investment in the university. The Director of Development for the Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions reports to the Senior Director of Development.

Essential Duties

Description of Job Duties
  • Develop and manage an active portfolio of 150-200 prospective donors that result in philanthropic dollars for the University.
  • Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of donors with a capacity of securing $10k gifts to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Achieve annual fundraising (gifts and pledges) goals of $750,000 to $1,000,000 in new commitments.
  • Hold a minimum of 160 face to face visits annually with benefactors to increase gift revenue to the University.
  • Work closely with the Dean and faculty. Regularly involve the Dean in face-to-face visits with benefactors.
  • While working in Bexar County and immediate area, represent the interests of the Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions while maintaining a donor centric approach to fundraising.
  • When traveling, visit benefactors who may have an affinity for other areas of the university.
  • Participate and strategically outline regional based activities, proposal preparation, strategy development and solicitation executed within a 12 – 24-month time frame.
  • While working independently, work collaboratively with colleagues and colleagues from across the campus to organize and plan opportunities for prospects to engage with the university and further development goals while representing the core values of the institution.
  • Document results of contacts with donors in Raiser’s Edge/NXT.
  • Maintain timely documentation to be input by closing of each respective month, including contact reports, outlining donor strategies, proposal development and submissions per month.
  • Participate in Monday morning huddle, bi-weekly prospect discussions, monthly proposal meetings, and quarterly activity check in meetings.
  • Serve as a role model in carrying out the University of the Incarnate Word’s mission, directing all actions to reflect the values and principles of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and the University of the Incarnate Word. This includes attending to the dignity of others.
  • Establish and maintain an environment that encourages teamwork, collaboration, and ethical behavior.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Support other members of the management team and their work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current trends in alumni engagement, moves management, prospect research, wealth analysis and business.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; an aptitude for critical thinking and problem-solving; ability to work well under pressure and maintain flexibility.
  • Highly developed relationship building skills.
  • Highly developed research and reading comprehension skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify, understand and interpret personal compensation, private company, securities holdings and other financial information from a variety of sources.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external constituents with multiple personality types, consistently exhibiting a level of professional maturity, judgment and decisiveness that motivates colleagues and inspires confidence.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and critically review information with the proven ability to exercise sound judgment as to the relevance of information, the manner of its collection and the delivery to various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strong computing and online research skills, with Microsoft Office software suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel), RaisersEdge/NXT or similar software, and development specific research tools (DonorSearch, etc.).
  • Fast-paced and results oriented with the ability to work in a timely manner with multiple deadlines and competing requirements.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Maturity and flexibility to support multiple program areas, independently manage multiple assignments, and shift priorities in accordance with need.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree.

Required Work Experience
Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of work experience in development, constituent relations, community outreach, admissions, career services, higher education or related field.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in donor outreach, engagement, and/or fundraising within a higher education setting.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Must have a valid driver license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.

Work Hours
Typical Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm with occasional extended hours/weekends to meet departmental needs and/or needs of the learning community.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to actively engage in events for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to regularly move about campus and event venues to actively engage potential and current donors, as well as attend meetings on and off campus.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 20lbs of development materials.
