SoarTech is growing, and we are looking for a Director of Business Development to lead the transition of this exciting technology into everyday operations.

Job Description

This individual will be responsible for representing the entire SoarTech portfolio of technologies and related capabilities to existing and potential customers. This person will develop an understanding of SoarTech’s technology offerings, past projects, and successes to illustrate opportunities at initial meetings with customers. They will be able to identify and understand customer needs and make initial assessments as to which technologies may address those needs. In-depth technology discussions and generation of specific technical solution ideas will be done in cooperation with technical leaders at SoarTech. This person is equally comfortable talking with and understanding customer needs and concerns, as well as understanding scientific research and internal technologies and translating between the two. This individual will also embrace and represent the SoarTech Core Values (Innovative, Honest, Customer Focused, Respectful, Integrity, and People) in all aspects of their duties and responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identifying and building relationships with key decision makers with budgets for performing research, development, testing, and deployment of systems.
  • Identifying new programs and helping capture leads formulate ideas for new programs that leverage SoarTech technologies.
  • Strategic representation of our offerings at conferences, workshops, and consortiums relevant to SoarTech.
  • Engaging SoarTech technical staff in the development of new ideas to address pressing customer needs.
  • Guides opportunities from initial contact, through concept development and initiation of proposal teams. Reviews materials throughout the process to ensure that customer needs and SoarTech technologies are all well-represented.
  • Manages and maintains routine pipeline analysis to articulate needs, current actions, forecasts, etc. to develop and communicate business objectives to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Intentionally developing collaborative opportunities with industrial and academic partners.
  • Provides leadership and management of Business Development activities, including mentorship of internal teammates on industry best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated ability in securing significant Department of Defense (DoD) RDT&E and acquisition funding, with a track record of successful captures.
  • BS or equivalent degree in Business Development, management, a technical area demonstrating an understanding of computer science, artificial intelligence, and/or human-machine teaming, autonomous vehicles, or modeling and simulation, or a related field or discipline.
  • Familiarity and insight into government programs in multiple domains (space, air, ground, surface, and undersea).
  • Familiar with Salesforce and ability to utilize this tool to identify pipeline opportunities, weaknesses, and provide robust analysis for internal stakeholders.
  • At least (7) seven years or equivalent experience in Business Development leadership with demonstrated success in winning new business and growing a business within the government or within industry.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, with an established network in relevant sectors.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability clearly present complex technologies in easily understandable terms, and present ideas and concepts with little preparation. Ability to efficiently communicate to and between technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Performs well in agile environments with different audiences and stakeholders. Can “think on one’s feet,” when coming up with initial concepts and solutions during meetings with customers that may blend multiple technologies and ideas from SoarTech’s portfolio.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience in mentorship and team development.
  • Demonstrated experience working with geographically distributed team.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time to support Business Development related activities such as conferences, workshops, consortiums, customer meetings, etc.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.

Preferred skills

  • At least (10) ten years of experience in the military, DoD space, and/or in government research environments.
  • Prior experience and current contacts at defense research organizations.
  • Prior experience and current contacts in Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corp, and SOCOM procurement agencies.
  • Professional work experience as a procurement manager, procurement officer, etc. instilling best practices and competitive practices to support contract acquisition.
  • Contacts with defense prime contractors (Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Boeing, Leidos, Dynetics, Kratos, etc.)
  • An active Department of Defense (DOD) Security Clearance.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time to support Business Development related activities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
