Wiley University is seeking an innovative and experienced Director of Athletics to lead our athletic department and drive the expansion of our programs. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with a strong background in sports administration, program development, and a proven track record of success in implementing new initiatives.
Responsibilities:
1. Program Development: Identify opportunities for new athletic programs and initiatives that align with the organization's mission and strategic goals. Develop comprehensive plans for the implementation of these programs, including budgeting, staffing, and facility requirements.
2. Strategic Leadership: Provide visionary leadership to the athletic department, setting clear goals and objectives for program expansion and innovation. Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and execute a strategic plan for the growth and development of the athletic department.
3. Team Management: Recruit, hire, and supervise coaching and administrative staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence. Provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities for staff members.
4. Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage the athletic department's budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to support new program initiatives. Identify and pursue external funding opportunities to support program expansion.
5. Compliance and Regulations: Ensure compliance with all relevant athletic association regulations, as well as local, state, and federal laws. Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices to maintain the highest standards of program integrity and compliance.
6. Student-Athlete Experience: Champion the holistic development of student-athletes, emphasizing academic success, sportsmanship, and personal growth. Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes diversity and equity within the athletic programs.
7. Community Engagement: Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including students, parents, alumni, and community members. Seek opportunities to enhance the visibility and impact of the athletic department through community outreach and partnerships.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in sports management, business administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in athletic administration, with a track record of successful program development and leadership.
- Strong understanding of NCAA or relevant athletic association rules and regulations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Proven ability to drive innovation and change within a complex organizational setting.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in athletics.
