Essential Functions
- Initiates human resource planning, selection and resource allocation activities that support the accounting team’s productivity and effectiveness. This includes responsibility for implementing and carrying out the managerial actions such as hiring, training, evaluating, rewarding, motivating and taking corrective action as necessary.
- With responsibility and ownership for the integrity of the general ledger, this position plans, directs and coordinates all operational accounting functions. This includes defining, implementing and championing effective strategies, policies and processes regarding the general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, billing and fixed assets functions and then monitoring performance to goals. Takes action to adjust direction and or coach and counsel staff to adjust performance where appropriate.
- Develops and sets forth processes, policies and schedules to ensure compliance with all accounting operational controls and objectives. This includes initiating and directing streamlined monthly close processes and schedules as well as preparing and reviewing audit schedules.
- Handles and oversees administrative matters concerning the operational accounting functions including preparing and submitting the department budget for approval. This position is also responsible for monitoring and controlling budget performance and taking action to implement cost saving strategies where available.
- Directs others in the consolidation, analysis and reporting of financial information. This includes responsibility for all general ledger account reconciliations. Ensures that reports and statements are accurate, timely and appropriate for various internal and external users.
- Oversees and directs the organization’s regulatory and tax reporting activities including defining and championing effective policies and procedures and aligning organizational goals and objectives with compliance standards.
- May manage complex accounting and/or finance projects that require broad conceptual judgment, initiative and the ability to deal with complex accounting issues.
- Participates in on-going staff meetings, training activities and continuing education to maintain relevant understanding and knowledge of business operations, related procedures and processes.
- Acts as a resource for users by providing training, education and responding to accounting system or process related questions.
- Maintains a level of currency in accounting and compliance related issues by participating with and maintaining memberships with professional work groups; attending trainings, seminars, and other business-related conferences; and interfacing with peers.
- Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
Supervisory and Managerial Responsibility
- This position entails formal, direct supervisory responsibility for managerial, professional and clerical level staff with general accounting systems and payroll responsibility.
- Matrixed supervisory responsibility includes the direction and follow-through for adherence to initiatives and policies and processes respective to general accounting systems, the consolidation of financial information and financial reporting activities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education, Licensure or Certification:
- A thorough knowledge and understanding of finance and accounting as normally obtained through the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
- CPA certification is required
- Master of Accountancy is preferred
Work Experience or Related Experience:
- The ability to effectively coordinate and direct the organization’s accounting operational functions and financial reporting functions as described as normally obtained through at least eight to ten years accounting experience at a progressively responsible level and at least three or more years’ experience managing others, including supervisory and managerial personnel
- Experience in the healthcare or medical fields in which incumbents have gained an understanding of durable medical equipment is strongly preferred
- At least three or more years of audit public accounting experience at a Big 4 or large regional firm.
Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent technical knowledge of all functional accounting areas is required with a very strong understanding of US GAAP
- A solid understanding of and exposure to the accounting and finance regulatory environment for private companies and an understanding of the regulatory environment for public companies. This includes the ability to consider the relationship of the regulatory environment with the organization as well as the ability to apply the appropriate principles in business
- Incumbents should possess a high level of quantitative analysis and business analysis skills and be able to make effective judgments, recommendations and decisions on relative information to resolve issues. Incumbents must be able to make high impact decisions and/or recommendations, even at times when insufficient information is available
- Excellent leadership, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills are required to perform the functions as described. Incumbents must have the ability to navigate political arenas with ease as well as persuade and negotiate with others while projecting a professional image
- The ability to encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members is essential. The ability to motivate, develop, and lead people to get results is required. Incumbents must also have the ability to lead and direct comprehensive functions and/or projects
- The ability to be proactive and self-directed utilizing good time management, decision-making and organization skills is required. Incumbents must be detailed oriented
- A good understanding of StateServ’s products, technologies, selling strategies and internal business functions is strongly preferred
Equipment:
- Working knowledge of a PC, business and communications software (MS Office) and web-based tools are required
- Familiarity with Quick Book Enterprise software is strongly preferred

- Minimal travel is required

- Work is performed in an office environment
Physical Requirements and Demands
- This position entails a high level of work performed at a computer terminal throughout the day as well as moderate use of a telephone or headset equipment
- Regular eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity is required to operate office equipment
