Salary Range: $100,000.00 to $120,000.00 Annually. Salary will be dependent upon experience.
Job Summary:
The Director of Accounting is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the accounting department to support both corporate and project accounting needs. The Director will oversee the accounting staff to ensure timely and accurate support of all accounting functions. They will also support special projects including merger and acquisition activity, and work closely with the leadership team to outline strategies, policies and procedures that advance the firm’s strategic goals. This position will be coming in as part of a succession plan with the understanding that Matrix currently has a full-time Director of which you will partner with through a transition period. Please note that final offer of this position will be contingent upon successfully passing a background check.
Essential Functions:
- Work closely with Operations Team to develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information with actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations.
- Provide CEO, COO, CAO, and CFO with timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Direct daily financial business operations and implement financial policies, accounting systems and cost controls.
- Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, and Work in Progress (WIP) management and provide support for collection activities for the Company.
- Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled and all journal entries are completed monthly.
- Analyze rate schedule and personnel billable factors and make suitable change recommendations.
- Collaborate with project managers and/or marketing staff to provide financial reporting, pre-qualifications and information deliverables need for proposals.
- Maintain accurate shareholder distribution records.
- Direct the preparation and analysis of receivables and revenue write-offs in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles. Ensure financial statements fairly report results of operations.
- Prepare quarterly financial presentations for the leadership team and Board of Directors.
- Maintain tax calendars, and work with external tax accountants to ensure tax filings are completed accurately and timely (i.e. corporate income taxes, sales and use, property, etc.).
- Reconcile loan activities as needed.
- Research and resolve all financial transactions as needed.
- Monitor accounting operations with a focus on continuous improvement and excellence of work product and service.
- Participate in worker’s compensation audit and provide carrier with appropriate documentation.
- Assist with annual overhead rate calculation.
- Prepare and provide financial information for annual professional liability insurance renewal.
- Coordinate with outside accountants for the completion of an annual certified audit, financial statements, and other reporting as is required.
- Prepare borrowing base financial reporting for Lender.
- Support management in completing special projects and other tasks as assigned.
- Direct the implementation of improved work methods and procedures to ensure financial record systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and in compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
- Manage accounting staff, including hiring, training, monitoring performance, reviews and goal setting, rewarding, and retention and addressing any problems.
- Act as primary liaison to external Comptroller for a wide array of tasks and activities
- Act as conduit to Matrix’s external accountants for development of financial statements and other documents required for our annual valuation
Competencies:
- Have extensive knowledge of Accounting concepts and principles and be highly skilled in bookkeeping and analyzing and interpreting financial data.
- Be knowledgeable of and understand GAAP, state, and federal regulations.
- Have Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) experience. Unanet A/E experience a plus.
- Have strong supervisory and leadership skills and the ability to prioritize tasks delegating when necessary.
- Have excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Have excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and accounting and financial software.
- Experience with multi-state tax and business registration requirements is a plus
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Will be responsible for supervising, managing, and directing the technical oversight of tasks and responsibilities for the Accounting department stemming multiple locations
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business. Equivalent experience may be substituted for degree.
- Have at least 10 (ten) years’ experience in a senior accounting position, experience as a CPA, and/or accounting manager a plus.
- Experience managing teams
- Valid driver's license, in conjunction with successfully passing the Company’s MVR.
