Job Description The Director, Infection prevention is a member of the Infection Prevention & Control team with special interest knowledge and experience in epidemiology, microbiology and principles of infection control. She/He works according to the guidelines established by the Infection Control Committee and under the immediate supervision of the Hospital Epidemiologist for administrative purposes.
The Director participates in the education of hospital staff by utilizing standards and procedures specified by the Infection Control Program and principles of adult education. She/He Collaborates with the hospital Epidemiologist and other members of the Infection Control Surveillance Team in planning and implementing the daily operation of the program. In Addition to carry in gout the responsibilities of an Infection Preventions, she/he provides leadership, guidance and input in planning and implementing the hospital wide infection control program.
The Director has extensive knowledge of the CDC Guidelines, Association of Infection Control Professionals (APIC), Standards, Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Organization Standards, Patient Bill of Rights, Department of Health Standards, Patient/Family centered Principles and Bellevue Hospital Center Policies and Procedures. She/He engenders confidence, trust and fosters collaborative/collegial relationships that generate staff achievement and pride. Responsibilities o Participates as a member or the team of Infection Control Staff. o Shares responsibility and works in close collaboration with the Hospital Epidemiologist in the Clinical administrative aspects and daily operations of the total Infection Control Program. o Along with the Hospital Epidemiologist in the formation of policies, procedures and programs designed to meet the goals and objectives the Infection Control Department and all hospital departments.
o Communicates the needs and plans of the Infection Control Program to the staff of patient care unites as well as all hospital departments in areas of assignments. o Serves as a member of the Hospital's Infection Control Committee. o Participates in the development and revision of infection control policies/procedure manuals.
o Evaluates patient cate practices for effectiveness and application to infection control. o Identifies and solves potential problems related to the implementation of Infection Prevention and control. o Serves as resource person or consultant in infection control to processional and ancillary staff.
o Participates in special studies relevant to infection control practices. o Participates in or initiates performance improvement activities o Serves on hospital interdisciplinary committees as a representative of the Infection Control Department. o Recognizes signs and symptoms of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in all age groups as defined by NHSN site definitions.
o Updates risk assessment plans and the program annually and as needed. Minimum Qualifications 1. Holds and maintains Certification in Infection Control (CIC) issued by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC); and, 2.
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Medical Technology, Public Health, Nursing or a related field; and one (1) year of satisfactory full-time paid experience in a responsible administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity, in the development of Infection Prevention and control programs, analysis and reporting of health care-associated infections, and other related Infection Prevention and control functions in a hospital or a health care setting; or 3. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in fields, as described in "2" above; and three (3) years of satisfactory, full-time paid progressively responsible experience, as described in "2" above, one (1) year of which must have been in a responsible administrative, managerial, or supervisory capacity; or 4. A satisfactory equivalent of education, training, and/or experience.
