- Planning programmatic and policy initiatives to be responsive to the changing needs of the Division, including preparation and response to pandemics.
- Coordination and planning of day to day activities of the epidemiologists in the Division and sets overarching program development.
- Direct supervision to staff in several major infectious disease areas and assurance of the recognition, investigation and control of outbreaks and clusters of communicable diseases, oversight in the development of educational activities and training programs to improve the capacity of clinical providers and local public health to detect, prevent, and investigate infectious diseases.
- Provide revisions and updates to regulations governing infectious disease surveillance and investigation.
- This position will act as the Project Director of the CDC Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Prevention and Control of Emerging Infectious Diseases CDC cooperative agreement including progress reports, re-applications and budgets. This involves coordinating input from Divisions within BIDLS, the Division of Climate and Environmental Health, and the Bureau of Healthcare Safety and Quality. This includes providing oversight of the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity Governance Team. The Director also contributes to both the CDC Immunization Cooperative Agreement and the CDC Public Health Emergency Preparedness Cooperative Agreement.
- Collaboration with internal and external agencies on issues related to surveillance, control, and response of infectious diseases to prevent further spread. This includes 351 local boards of health within Massachusetts, the CDC, FDA, USDA, MA Department of Agricultural Resources, and Bureaus within DPH such as the Bureau of Climate and Environmental Health, the Bureau of Healthcare Safety and Quality and the Office of Preparedness and Emergency Management.
- Knowledge of public health principles and practice.

We monitor health status and manage vital records including births, marriages and deaths.
