As Starbucks corporate counsel - Global Data Privacy & Security, you will provide legal advice and services to key internal stakeholders, including Global Privacy and Global Cybersecurity Services, wherever Starbucks does business across the globe. 

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

Essential job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Day-to-day legal support and advice to global marketing, technology, privacy, and data security organizations.
  • Review, negotiate, and draft commercial contract terms, privacy notices, policies, and standards. 
  • Legal support and guidance in response to potential privacy and data security incidents
  • Participation in data governance and cross-functional groups.
  • Providing guidance on legal requirements for new business models and technologies, such as generative AI.
  • Tracking and guiding compliance with evolving laws, regulations, litigation, and enforcement trends.
  • Efficient utilization and management of outside counsel.

 

Leveraging your previous experience, we will enable you to:

 

  • Guide - Clearly and concisely communicate strategic legal counseling to business and compliance teams.
  • Collaborate - Establish highly collaborative relationships with business and compliance teams and with other legal department partners to provide cross-functional support for the organization.
  • Be a Trusted Advisor - Help advance business objectives and mitigate risk by acting as a trusted advisor whose strategic thinking, business acumen, pragmatic problem-solving and proactive counsel are sought out by stakeholders.

We would love to hear from people with:

  • Five to nine years of relevant substantive legal experience in a law firm or company legal department.
    • Deep knowledge of global privacy and consumer protection laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially those relevant to technology, retail, and food service companies.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and projects, including geographically diverse teams in various time zones including the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
    • Experience advising businesses with international and/or complex corporate entities, franchisees, and licensees.
    • Experience counseling records management teams globally and in various jurisdictions.
    • Highly self-motivated team player who can work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with professional colleagues at all levels within the organization.
  • Experience managing outside counsel and budgets.
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in pertinent jurisdictions.
    • Privacy or compliance accreditation. CIPP/CIPM or comparable privacy certification is desirable.

The pay range for this position may be narrower than that displayed, depending on where the work is performed.
