Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, Program Assistants in the Adult Development and Activity Center Day Program help to design, lead and implement facility-based and community-based activities that are tailored to the needs, strengths, interests and preferences of consumers in order to develop consumers’ functional skills, enrich their lives through community integration and self-advocacy, further their independence through the development of employment and self-care skills, as well as provide structured opportunities for creative expression and enjoyment.Must have skill in communicating verbally and non-verbally with participants.
Assigned activities may include job coaching paid work sites, directing volunteer work at non-profit organizations; supporting development of independent living skills through activities such as using the computer and Internet; public transit, cooking and nutrition, growing vegetables; fulfilling needs for creative expression through activities such as music, dance, art, crafts, and photography; leading social recreational activities such as physical fitness, community outings, swimming and bowling; and orienting consumers in how to access community resources such as the library, parks and recreation center.
