Organizational Profile
KFUO Radio is the official broadcast ministry of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. KFUO Radio is the oldest continuously operating Christian radio station in the United States. This ministry of the LCMS is operated for the purpose of providing high-quality, distinctively Lutheran broadcast programs that nurture the Christian faith, support and supplement the witness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. KFUO Radio broadcasts the theological confession of the LCMS via terrestrial radio station KFUO 850 AM and via the continuous live streams on the internet along with podcast programs for on-demand listening.
Reporting Relationships
Reports to the Digital Media Manager, KFUO.
Essential Job Functions
- Creates content for and manages presence on social networking platforms, engaging in communities using Facebook, blogs, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and other social media strategies.
- Implements the social media strategy, ensuring its effectiveness and encouraging adoption of relevant social media techniques into the social media presence.
- Ensures consistent LCMS Lutheran message and branding across digital platforms, including social media, website, and app.
- Monitors and analyzes social media analytics and recommends strategies for growth.
- Ensures social media tools are kept up-to-date.
- Manages digital presence across emerging technology.
- Maintains up-to-date posts of content and on-demand audio on KFUO.org
- Manages KFUO.org website presence, ensuring its accuracy and effectiveness.
- Responsible for maintaining and fostering excellent relationships and communication with program guests, partner entities, and outside vendors.
- Produce programming including but not limited to management of program guest calendar, communication with potential guests, researching program topics, and copywriting scripts.
- Communication with the respective hosts and guests of programs to ensure that the program goals and objectives are met.
- Assist with general office administration.
- Participation in the KFUO Radio special fund-raising events.
Education and Experience
- An active member of an LCMS congregation, faithful to the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions is preferred.
- A Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in practical knowledge with four or more years of experience in the fields of theology, journalism, communications, Digital Media, or broadcasting is preferred although not required.

- Broad knowledge of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, including issues, trends, stories, organizations, entities, and key stakeholders.
- Planning, managing and executing social media and web initiatives.
- Digital marketing current best practices and understanding of digital production processes.
- Strategic planning and processes for creative development, including research tools and evaluation of results.
- Social Media platforms, their respective participants and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios.
- Website management software, podcast hosting management, mass email software, digital design, and podcast platforms.
- Search Engine Optimization, including keyword research.
- Principles and best practices of social media management and podcast hosting/distribution.
Essential Skills:
- Researching skills to identify stories of interest to the LCMS / Program audience, communicating with guests, writing scripts, and managing program recording calendar.
- Strong English oral, creative writing, editorial (spelling/grammar/proofing), presentation, and interpersonal communication skills including storytelling and copywriting for composing outwardly facing communications.
- Proficient in MS Office, Outlook, social media applications (I.e. Sprout and Meta Business Suite), Website management software (Wordpress), podcast hosting management (StreamGuys), mass email software (Mailchimp), digital design (Canva), and podcast platforms including but not limited to Apple, Google, Spotify.
- Analysis and evaluation skills to effectively communicate social media and web performance.
- Organizational and time management skills in order to work well under pressure and consistently meet daily deadlines.
- Technical and computer skills with the ability to comprehend a variety of office and broadcast related software, hardware and equipment.

- Ability to think creatively and outside the box to pique the interest of every audience (social media, web, broadcast, podcast).

- Appreciate and understand that the social media ecosystem is evolving, staying abreast of the latest trends and best practices.
- Possess a teachable spirit and ability to follow-through on tasks and instructions with minimal management, taking responsibility for his/her work.
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently and manage time well as an effective and integral member of a team meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work some nights and weekends, with occasional travel.
