Job Description

Position Function - Under the direction of the Communication & Public Engagement Manager, performs assigned duties necessary to assist in the development, implementation and promotion of the city’s initiatives, programs, events and vision.
Essential Duties% of Performance
Performs assigned duties necessary to assist in the development, implementation and promotion of the city’s initiatives, programs, events and vision. Duties include, but are not limited to: researching, writing, producing, and editing video presentations and content; developing and managing the city's social/emerging media presence, including monitoring trends, algorithms and legal considerations; designing and updating information on the city’s website, government access channel and digital displays, and for use in advertisements and publications; assisting with branding/marketing, including strategic planning and implementation across a variety of media; and assisting with the development and implementation of city policies, including training staff and elected officials, as directed. Responsible for working with Departments to promote their individual initiatives, programs, events and goals; and assisting with the development of department metrics and analytics reports.70%
Performs assigned duties necessary to maintain and improve relations between the City of Keller and members of the public and press. Duties may include, but are not limited to: assisting with the development and distribution of news releases, fostering positive media relations, participating and training in emergency management operations as a Public Information Officer, and serving as the City spokesperson (when directed). 15%
Performs assigned duties necessary to assist with the preparation and administration of the annual budget (e.g., forecasting division expenditures, coordinating with other departments for equipment and marketing needs, etc.). Responsible for adhering to and engaging in procurement processes and procedure. 10%

Participation in outdoor events and/or venues could cause possible exposure to dust, mold, and allergens; noise; inclement weather; and electrical hazards.Requirements/Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesRequired knowledge and experience is normally obtained through the completion of an advanced education from an accredited educational institution of higher learning resulting in a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Audio/Video Production, Communications, Public Administration or related field, and five (5) five to seven (7) years of work related experience are required.Local government and/or Public Relations experience is preferred.Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, including mastery of English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.Work requires substantial independent judgment and decision-making. Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Creative applications, as well as various social media platforms.Competent in website development, including the use of Content Management System software.Competent in print and video technology, development, production, editing, etc. Ability to read letters, memos, contracts, professional and industry literature, spreadsheets and other job related analysis.Ability to understand and develop computer models for cost analysis and compose financial and budgetary reports.Ability to research, compile and analyze data, and present findings to management in an acceptable format.Ability to monitor and assess operations, workload, projects, and team performance.Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City and other public employees, public officials, contractors, consultants, vendors, media, and the general public. Ability to work after hours, meet deadlines, work under high demands, short time constraints, and the pressure of a fast paced work environment, meeting established timelines/deadlines and multi-task effectively.Ability to remain up-to-date on Federal, State, and City regulations, best practices and policies affecting division and job related activities.Must exhibit attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver license. Must pass all post offer pre-employment processes and/or procedures, to include but not limited to Drug Screen, Physical Examination, and applicable Background Checks.
