Cates Control Systems in Webster, TX is looking to hire a Field Service Technician - ABB Drive Specialist. As a Field Service Technician - ABB Drive Specialist, you will have a pivotal role in solving our customers' business problems using your technical expertise and great customer service skills. Job Purpose:
The Field Service Technician specializes in ABB drives, providing comprehensive onsite and in-shop support for industrial motor control products. Responsibilities include Field Service requests, ABB drive installation, maintenance, and modernization, as well as panel construction and drive repair at the Webster shop.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert onsite customer service for ABB drives, including installation, preventive maintenance, evaluation, and repair.
- Conduct start-up services, preventive maintenance, and general repairs on ABB and other motor control products.
- Complete and submit field documentation and reports, adhering to company policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with customers for feedback, problem resolution, and drive specification for their applications.
- Ensure ABB equipment and systems meet compliance, quality, technical performance, and customer satisfaction standards.
- Share on-call duties as required.
- Perform wiring and control panel layout tasks both in-house and at customer sites.
- Refurbish used ABB drives and install drive modernization kits.
- Onsite commissioning of new ABB drive installations.
- Provide expertise in specifying the selection of ABB drives for customer applications.
Measurements:
•Utilization rate of at least 80%.
•Profitability.
•High client satisfaction in ABB drive services.
•Maintain and expand ABB Drive certifications.
Education and Experience:
- Preferred: Associate's Degree in a technical discipline (equivalent experience considered).
- At least 2 years of experience in troubleshooting and maintaining ABB drives.
- Proven field experience in industrial electronics or related engineering duties.
Soft Skills:
- Flexible work hours, including weekends.
- Availability to report to the office when not scheduled for fieldwork.
- Willingness to travel locally up to 80% of the time.
- Detail-oriented with a strong customer service focus.
- Patience and ability to work well under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Hard Skills:
•Extensive experience with ABB AC/DC drives and other industrial equipment.
•Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical layouts and schematics.
•In-depth knowledge of ABB Drive technology, Motion Control, PLCs, and HMI products.
•Familiarity with common wiring tools, multimeters, OSHA, and NEC/UL 508A standards.
•Physical ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds and perform various physical tasks.
•DISA compliance which includes drug testing, random drug testing, and background checks.
•Maintain ongoing training and certifications in coordination with HR such as: Basic Plus and customer required training.
