Salary Range: $107,910 - $137,228

 

Position Summary

 

The DFH Estimating Manager’s role will manage the DFH Estimating Department by mentoring and developing the staff, overall leadership, management, direction, and successful execution of doors, frames and hardware estimates for regions. The Estimating Manager will work closely with the regional Business Development (BD), PCS and Regional Managers to help derive winning strategies and allocate resources to meet deliverables. The Estimating Manager is accountable for identifying and managing risk on all bids as well as expected to create and capitalize on opportunities on projects. This position has a strong understanding of the market, industry, products, manufacturers, and customers. The Estimating Manager is also responsible for developing and fostering strong relationships at mid and high level (as applicable) with Door, Frames and Hardware manufacturers. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities - Estimating

 

  • Take the lead to initiate, identify and execute bid strategies, work closely with VP/RM & BD prior to and on bid day with vendor communications.
  • Meet weekly with team to manage project assignments, discuss department changes or procedures, problem solve any issues on projects in progress and maintain an up-to-date estimating/bid schedule.
  • Understand project requirements, schedules and special conditions, identify actions and ensure communication with team.
  • Timely and frequent communication to GM/VP of areas of risk and issues – affecting scope, financial, people and performance.
  • Identify ambiguities in the bidding documents and formulate strategies accordingly with estimator and VP/GM.
  • Understand project scope requirements sufficiently to help direct decision on vendor selection, considering workload, capabilities, products alignment and pricing.
  • Ensure appropriate price increases, escalation and/or surcharges are accounted for in estimates. Track market trends, projections and seek feedback from manufacturers to help estimators make projections beyond quoted values. 
  • Expertise and/or understanding in Private, Public, Design Build, and Negotiated Delivery Methods within Doors, Frames and Hardware.
  • Review and/or ensure all bid documents, specifications, and plans, bid forms, alternates, schedule and addendums are acknowledged.
  • Responsible for all estimates, maintain uniform estimating procedures, scope requirements with accurate and complete quantity surveys.
  • Hold team accountable in sending out proper and timely RFQ and subcontractor pricing as required. Review high risk and/or high value quotations.
  • Review of all Final Estimate packages with teams before released.
  • Track bid results and estimating metrics using reports and review closure rates for strategic decisions with sales on bidding opportunities.
  • Ensure estimating team is prepared with coverage on risk items in the bid and anticipate questions of bid reviewers and have clear explanations prepared.
  • Initiate suggestions for process improvements.
  • Lead and close a bid with the Sales with BD or RM absence
  • Make quick, sound decisions at bid time for a complete and competitive bid.
  • Review and provide input on fiscal budgeting
  • Build strategic relationships with key vendors, subcontractors and customers to partner on projects for competitive advantage.
  • Seek out new manufacturers and participate in building partnerships in alignment with business strategy. Facilitate set up of accounts with favorable terms and conditions. Maintain updated Vendor list.
  • Review all awarded projects with Estimator in preparation for the Debriefing Meeting to ensure Regional Team and Detailing team will have all the required information to be successful and efficient.
  • Work with Detailing Manager to track outcomes and communicate lessons learned to estimators.
  • Determine all risks and opportunities on projects in process for the quarterly Division Reviews.

Preferred Qualifications (in addition to minimum qualifications)

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or equivalent
  • Three years of supervisory experience

 

Knowledge/Skills

  • Experience with estimating, detailing and procurement of Doors, Frames and Hardware,
  • Use of Comsense and other technology tools, i.e., Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Adobe, etc.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent and
  • At least 15 years’ experience estimating and purchasing in the construction industry

 

Knowledge/Skills

  • Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal through collaborating across roles and diverse groups. 
  • Ability to develop, refine and execute strategies in alignment with GM and Company Vision
  • Advanced knowledge of ISEC DFH products, services, processes and projects
